Code 15 - Ignition Output Signal

Something is wrong with the referance voltage, the ECU is receiving from the igniter.
The only way to check this, is with a Volt Meter of some kind, or ocs-scope. The latter being the most accurate. Sooo, that means a trip to a shop, that has this kind of equip...

Most peeps just end-up replacing the dist.. However, you can DYI if you have the tools and manual...

Hope that helps. SOunds like either dizzy or dizzy wiring related.

Cheers, ive been over it quickly with my multimeter but have come home and done some research and will try again tomorrow.

Its possible that my ignitor is dead, but I will pull apart my ZC dizzy and get resistance readings from that ignitor and compare with the Bseries, that should hopefully narrow down my search field.

I have some wires I havnt connected at the ECU, they are OBD0 B7, B9 and B11 which according to my pinouts list dont exist. B7 and B11 and green and I think black and I cant remember what B9 is. Anyone have any ideas?
  • usually bare necessaties first...
    check...start yes finish build...

you should have saved that flipflops
    for the beach...

it's only a matter of time...
i can hear a engine running...

Found the issue (broken plug) so I hard wired it and its all go.

Mad rush to make it to the exhaust shop at 1pm as I had to change the tie rod ends last minute, which I managed in 30mins.

On the way home CEL came on, was code 23-knock sensor. This is probably due to running low octane fuel, only having put the sensor in hand tight and possibly a crap connection.

It also has nooo power at all, so there is a timing issue to fix still, I will throw a set of plugs at it tomorrow.

Thanks, needless to say I am stoked with the result, apart from sitting the motor in place and welding the linkages I have done everything myself, so im actually quite proud to be honest.

    On the list are
    -Bigger brake M/C (15/16)
    -Skunk2 Coilover Sleeves
    -Extended tophats
-2 1/4" Exhaust (try keep this as quiet as possible)
    -Sunroof

Asides from that just give the engine bay a tidy up, paint the rocker cover black again, track down a heat shield for the headers etc etc

Thanks, it took longer than expected as I had never done anything to this extent before, I was lucky enough to have a buddy whos good with this sorta thing that I could ask heaps of questions, he also has a Honda Trade account so I got cheap parts!
  • So rad, I love it. Countdown until ITR goes bye bye.... 3....2....

Haha though I havnt experienced the full power of the B18c yet I can safely say I wont be selling the ITR for a long time, if ever. That said I ant imagine selling the shuttle any time soon either.

Im going on holiday tomorrow, decided not to take the Shuttle as its just too untested, would be asking for trouble, so im not going to do much today, just put the interior back together. Will worry about getting it running when I get back on the 30th

That was the plan! I wanted to run the OEM intake but the Intake arm wouldnt fit over the Bseries throttle body, one day I will find a EF8/9 intake arm and put the standard intake system back on.

It does seem to be quite a rare colour, it needs a wash and polish however and engine bay needs a massive tidy up, but I wasnt going to hide any wiring knowing that I would have to get at it again anyway.

i want it... i want it... i want it... rhd wagon with a dohc ..... can't go wrong...
  • Right then, still havnt got the shuttle all tidied up. Been super busy at work as im now starting my second apprenticeship as an Intrumentation technician. Also have been working on the Type R as I had a trackday last monday.

To prove its not just a hardparker:
    Flyby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3gNdrkJ9IE

    In car pt1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQnWKn2s2pM
    In car pt2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKLmAuS9SO4

Fastest lap of the day was 1min56 which im happy with, was probably one of the quicker cars not on semi slicks.

To put that in perspective a full race Civic Type R was doing a 1min42 and a westfeild XTR2 was doing a 1min38. A completly stock Lotus Elise was doing about a 1min52.

Hell yeah! Nice videos. Those tires were begging for mercy in the part 2 video!

I'll have to check out your blog later.. off to work!
  • Hell yea , drive it like a rental :D .
  • Cheers guys, was a bit of fun.

However that wasnt pushing  didnt even get the ABS to kick in so could have pushed a lot harder, just the 200km drive home prevents me pushing so hard that something breaks
  • Looks like a blast. Worthy excuse to put the wagon on hold for a bit.

Thanks, they are currently covered in wire offcuts....

    Small update:
Massive thanks the Chris (rti-intrac) who hooked my up with some windscreen squirters and rear seat release knobs, both of which I had managed to break.

Have also just bought a "personal" steering wheel, new engine loom for me to re-do in order to tidy up my engine bay and a B18c throttle cable.

Otherwise havnt really done too much, Ive fixed the power steering pump leak and painted the reservoir black along with the windscreen water tank etc. Have got new spark plugs waiting to go in too. So all thats left is to bleed the brakes again, set the timing and its all go.
My brother has almost finished my extended tophats so I shall have those in around easter I hope.

Have also sussed out a mate to repaint it later this year and Im currently sorting out a deal for some 14" Mugen CF-48 Wheels.

Heres the tidied up side of the engine bay (still got the rest to do...)
    434.jpg
And heres my new loom, will be stripping it down, re-routing some of the wires and adding the few more that are needed. Its a loom from a EF3 civic, so should be easier to redo than the DA6 one thats in the car now, theres nothing wrong with my current one but its messy so thought I would give doing a subtle wire tuck a go.

Just read through this whole thread.... nice car! I'm interested in what you're doing with the wiring harness, I just did a mpfi swap and I need to clean up the wiring in a bad way.... can't wait for some more pics!

    Thanks!

My plans basically just involve removing all of the plastic covering, moving the radiator fan switch wires to the correct place for Bseries and adding wires for vtec and knock sensor etc. Will also run the injector wiring under the Intake manifold and have the plugs for each injector coming up from underneath. Then cover it all back up and make it look like new

When done this way you should only really see wiring around the dizzy and up where it plugs in near the fuse box. I assume my wiring loom will be different that yours due to being RHD? Since my ECU will be on a different side, im not sure.

Will post up some pics before I chuck it into the car
  • udubrx7udubrx7 Senior Wagonist
You're right it will be different because I'm LHD. I'm just curious to see how a trained electrician would go about doing it! You're lucky though, having the ecu on that side of the car makes it a lot easier to do a more discrete wire tuck!

Haha being a electrician I would be inclined to run a cable tray across the top of the engine and have all wiring cable tied to that then peeling out where they need to, all in plain sight and easy to access. Im an industrial electrician so there is little effort put into hiding any wiring, all function no form  I think I will ignore my training in this case :D

What is going to end up being the "outer seal" on the harness when you're done? Just wrap it with electrical tape? I think I read somewhere about people using some kind of stretchy non-stick vinyl type wrap because the adhesive in regular electrical tape breaks down fast in the heat. BUT I use the expensive as shit 3M tape that costs about $8 USD a roll , and I haven't had a problem with it before.
  • NZ-DB8RNZ-DB8R Moderator
Will be using the original plastic covering with fresh tape, I get free tape at work and the stuff thats on there now has been for the last 20years so no reason mine wont last at least half that. Only takes 5mins to take the loom out if it needs re-doing anyway
  • NZ-DB8RNZ-DB8R Moderator
We have success, threw the new plugs in today and did some other cosmetic bits and pieces. Starter it up and its running nice and smoothly, took it for a quick drive down the road, as can be suspected it goes well. Havnt hit vtec due to having some low octane (91) fuel in the tank, once I get some air in the tyres I will take it down and put some 95 or 98 in.

Also put my new Personal Steering wheel on:

Re bled the brakes today, didnt really help. So will flush all the fluid and replace the lot.

In other news I went for the first real drive in this today....

  Wow it goes rather well, second gear when VTEC kicks in it looses all traction (tyres are pretty bald, but still) only have a small issue with some loose wiring, when I went over a pothole the CEL came on and stayed on but ECU didnt go into limp mode, so I turned around and went home and the CEL went away. The new loom will fix this.
