Had my Certification inspection today. It checks that I have done the engine swap correctly and safely, the brakes can handle the extra power and that my adjustable suspension is at a safe height. $450 though!
Love this car man! that sucks though to spend 450 on registering the wago!
Thanks
But sadly that $450 wasnt for rego, its a one off payment to be certified for modifications.
In New Zealand we can pretty much modify our cars as much as we want, almost anything goes. But as soon as you move away from simple things like bolt on upgrades you have to have it certified. You get a plate riveted to your chassis stating the modifications that have been inspected and are legal.
i.e. you can lower your car with lowering springs without a cert so long as it is over 100mm off the ground, the springs are captive and its not adjustable platforms. As soon as you go to anything adjustable or lower you need a cert.
Same goes with engine swaps, if the engine is of a bigger capacity than stock, a different series of engine than stock, has more than 20% more power than stock or doesnt use OEM engine mounts it needs a cert. So I could have put a D15b or D16a or DOHC ZC in and not needed a cert.
Registration is $287 a year, then every 6months you pay about $45 for a Warrent of Fitness which checks the road-worthyness of your car. Things like all lights are working, tyres have more than 1.5mm tread, no rust etc etc
Well the Shuttle passed its WOF inspection last thursday and I paid for registration so its been road legal for the last few days. Have used it everyday and I love it
Heres a couple pics of the Shuttle and my little Brothers 1970 Triumph Herald 13/60 Estate that he got a month or so back:
So this arrived, wasnt going to post pics till it was all mounted but I have decided I need to restore the bar before I put it on as its a little scruffy. Since Im on holiday for 2weeks soon that wont be till next month at least
I have the "skid plate" as well its just not in the pic
Love the wagon! Great updates and sorry to hear about your grandmother. Mine passed in dec. 2007 and we actually pulled the plug by my grandpas choice who also passed in Oct. 2009. They both had a good run and I loved them so. My wagon has been keeping my mind occupied even though it was so long ago I still think of them a lot.
Right, Ive been away for the last 2weeks on the Coromandel Peninsula, specifically Tairua. Had one Tropical Cyclone bowl on through cutting off roads with slips and floods and also had some brilliant weather.
The night before I left the Alternator fell off So I made a new bottom bolt from some M10 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod. Glad that happened in my parents driveway rather than the middle of nowhere.
Heres some pics of the wagon for you:
Tairua Boat Ramp
Pauanui in the Rain, we went to check out all the multimillion dollar holiday homes:
Went for a short drive north of Tairua(can see it in the distance):
wagon looks good, IMO leave bullbar off- car looks great without it....
Thanks Bill, there are parts of NZ that are amazing, the Coromandel Peninsula in particular. In January the population of that area quadruples as everyone goes there for Summer.
The roads are pretty damn awesome too, sadly at this time of the year everyone drives really slowly so I didnt manage to enjoy the corners as much as I would have liked
Bullbar I will put on and see how it looks, im picking that I simply will not be able to get in and out of my driveway easily. Straight on and the Bullbar will hit, side on and the tyres hit the guards
I had to go to Rotorua (1hour away) to pick up my cert plate which completes the certification process (plate riveted to car stating the mods). Conveniently Rotorua has a very good MTB park so stopped in there for a while till it got too hot then on the way home I pass 4lakes, so stopped in at Rotoma and had a swim. Was a most pleasant way to spend the day
I took a video of some of the drive back that shows exactly why I dont lower this any further will upload it at some stage
where did you order them from?, they look sick and my kids hate the sun when we're out driving around
Yahoo Auctions Japan, you will need to have a contact in Japan or capable of ordering off there though, the only place I know that does this brings the parts to NZ which doesnt help you at all. They are "Daisy" branded and are electronically adjustable.
So my crank pully made a run for it today, cambelt wasnt having a bar of it. Only damage so far is the cambelt which I will replace next weekend.
Annoying more than costly.
Also lost the pulley bolt and key, but I have a new bolt and will order a key with the cambelt
So todays lesson, TIGHTEN YOUR CRANK PULLEY REAL TIGHT!
Man, sad... you should post that other pic too. Of the whole car... sad
haha, its not a big deal. Just an inconvenience. Onwards and upwards
Stranded on the side of the road:
Filling up the truck with Diesel, my mate Ben was luckily only a 15min drive from where I was, so gave me a tow with one of his Dads trucks:
Its....interesting being towed at 80kp/h with a 6meter tow rope and very little brakes
I was only about a 40min drive from Home, so about an hour and a bit being towed
For anyone interested, I pulled this apart the other day to access damage before I ordered parts:
Messy:
Where the belt rubbed on the covers:
The belt (I cut it off):
It was a day for working on Honda's
So the only damage is the covers, the belt and a missing key and bolt.
Have ordered a new belt and key, got a new crank pulley and bolt for free. Covers are fine, cant tell they are damaged unless you pull it apart.
I will also pull the gearbox off as there is a small oil leak from the rear crank seal.

Looking forward to a propper photo shoot
Thankyou sir!
I am too, I just didnt want to drive far since if I got pulled up it would be a $600 fine. So I went to the Mall just across the river from my house.

I am in neither of those places
Thanks guys, not sure if I like it yet. Will get it mounted and decide if its something that will work or not
(im not going to ship it overseas if I decide not to use it)

Its come a long way.
Tow hook was only on there for a joke, its hardly a race car its sitting in a box somewhere in my shed I think
There were some factory optioned ones but I have never seen them, probably all long broken. These are an aftermarket item
