Everybody is on that bandwagon with bolt boy kit.

They think they look herra cool or herra frush.

Have to think outside the box like Bam has done.

I picked up some 1/2" ID .250 wall tubing for the left engine mount spacer

    646.jpg

because I'm using 1/2" bolts, had to drill out the mount holes

    647.jpg

Here it is bolted together. The finished version will have a member to tie the two tubes together and make a unified spacer. More on that later.

Wonder if that's going to torque twist? Maybe weld a plate between them.. and weld a foot on the bottom & top it. To make it a little more solid. Just a thought. Looks like it might be able to wiggle as it is..

I forgot how low that motor is gonna sit.. Definitely no Hood clearance issues!!! LOL

    Import Alliance here we come!!

Spent the night at the boat, heading home now to work through this hangover.

Spending today working out engine compartment stuff

Look how close the heater valve is to the EACV. I bent the valve bracket downward enough for the cable to work.

    749.jpg

Took a good while to get the mounts squared away. It's all good now, though.

    750.jpg

No pictures of the left mount yet, had to whittle on it considerably.

This is awesome! Reminds me of my buddies '84 Subaru wagon he lifted about 8 years ago. He just used 2x4 steel tubing to lower his suspension mounting points with a lot of gusseting in between. For wheels he just drilled out his hubs for some Chevy six lug wheels he had lying around cause 2 of the original lugs lined up with the Chevy wheels. For tires he got some All-Terrains that were about 29"-30"s tall.

Subie is cool. When we first started dating, Anne had a (new) '86 sedan. I was amazed at some of the places that car would go.

Update time. After marking up what needed modification, I yanked the engine back out.
Had to beat on this a little for more sc belt room.

    1044.jpg

Also had to notch a bit for crank pulley and tranny mount, nothing major.

    Test fit the jrod header

Went to look at a parts car for something, found this

    1047.jpg

Got all the welding done, then degreased and prepped for paint. I bought 2 different colors of Rustoleum, thought this gold would match well

    1048.jpg

    It didn't.
Since i couldn't return it, i just fogged it on for a basecoat. Topcoated it with antique brass.

  • hahahahaha " i just painted my brother's engine bay antique brass lol looks good bam bam

    damn.
look how straight the body appears to be in that last pic... is there a dent on this wagon ??
love this... engine bay color looks nice!
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
The only real body damage is on the right rear fender arch. It's kinda flattened, but the flares I have in mind will cover it. There were some wrinkled front clip pieces, but all that bolt-on stuff is easy. And it came with a parts car in the same color !

Looking good Bam!! I bet your ready to take this guy for a cruise!!
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Hoping to cruise to IA! Yesterday I relocated the proportioning valve and fuse box, put the brake
lines back in, and drilled new holes for the front brake lines. It's coming along.
  • rbwdrivenrbwdriven Senior Wagonist
that antique brass almost matches the body color.

    Looks good dude.
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Thanks. Went home for awhile today, fitted
Some new brake lines. Now the front brakes are taken care of. Ordered the master cylinder and
    A few more goodies.
My head wasn't in it today though. The sun was out, temps in the high 80s, and everybody but me at the lake. I caved in and headed back to the boat.
  • Good call on going on the boat, today was awesome out here and I was stuck inside studying for finals.

Did you think of any ideas of what you're gonna do with the front clip bumper wise?
  • fuck ya this shit rules

I have three different ideas in mind, will start out with just a modded stock bumper. I want to end up with a full custom setup, but it's a pretty low priority right now. After I get it running, stopping, tuned etc, THEN I can work on accessories.
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
...and rear bumper mods will probably come first, as I need to build my spare tire carrier.
  • i say cut a hole in the driver or passenger side of the bumper and weld on a swing arm and that way you can have a full size spare and still be able to open and close the hatch
