Bisimoto's Turbo build: Quest for 700whp D16Z WagoVan

For years, I have focused on naturally aspirated performance. I loved, and still do love, the challenge of sailing in uncharted waters, and extracting what was seen as impossible power.

Last year, Bisimoto Engineering participated in a high profile engine challenge/shootout, to determine which shop could produce the most HP/litre in a streetable, unleaded fuel engine. Cosworth, and I opted for all motor builds, as a torture test was promised for the engines, and the units had to fit in a factory chassis. Long story, short, other competitors with boosted setups faired very well in the competition, and even though Bisimoto with a 360 hp F22A engine placed better than Cosworth, we did not win the event.

At the award ceremony, I was approached by an employee of the winning team, and asked why we chose to run n/a. I simply answered that we wanted to build an engine in the true spirit of the competition: a reliable, streetable, chassis friendly engine. I guess that answer was not good enough, as he responded, "didn't you build all motor, because that is all you know?"

I quickly shared that n/a is quite difficult, and that we have built, and tuned customers boosted engines for years, and frankly, it was not as challenging. He chuckled and walked away saying, "yea, all motor is all you know".

Well, after that interaction, I promptly walked over to Jonathan Wong of SuperStreet magazine, and shared with him my new desire:
To build the most powerful street, small displacement Honda ever...in a Wagovan (just to be absurd). It would not be a dyno queen, but a car that will be driven, to and from events, shows, meets and...the supermarket.

Very inspiring! Hope it shows others that n/a is more for a challenge not for its difficulty. Great work so far, keep us updated.
  • I guess you didn't see the ridiculous sized turbo on the front of it if you are using n/a to mean naturally aspirated.
  • Marc_EE9Marc_EE9 Senior Wagonist
    amazing!! 8)

    keep up the good work

OMG!!   Keep us updated please.
  • You would have saved yourself a lot of time and money if you had just open-palm slapped the dude in the face... :P
  • The turbo size to wagon weight ratio seems to be correct.  I think you would have more fun if you pushed that 700 hp through the RT4wd drivetrain

I am a customer of BISIMOTO and a friend of Bisi's. Here are some pictures that I took while visiting BISIMOTO.

    Bisi doing some finishing touches.
    502.jpg
    503.jpg

Turbo and manifold getting mocked up.
    504.jpg

Random shot of the BISIMOTO prototype manifold and TURBONETICS turbo
    505.jpg

    Nice clearance and wonderful fitment.
    506.jpg

GOLDEN EAGLE intake manifold, AEM fuel rail, and the S2 throttle body.
    507.jpg

New BISIMOTO adjustable CNC oil caps. No more having to deal with getting an oil cap from some random company and tightening it and being irritated as hell that the logo doesn't sit straight. These oil caps can be adjusted so that you never have that problem again. And they will be offered in a wide array of color options to match anyones engine bay theme.
    508.jpg

    RYWIRE harness pics.
    509.jpg

Look at the twisting of the wires Ryan did under the heat shrink. SICK.
    510.jpg

Many AEM products integrated in to this harness.
    511.jpg

Clutch to handle all the power. This is the same company that produces the clutches that Bisi uses on his personal race motors as well as customers cars. Made in America, very competitively priced, and can handle power.
    512.jpg
    513.jpg
    514.jpg

Flywheel that Bisi has been using for like 2 years! Hahaha. SERIOUSLY. And it still has plenty of life. The BISIMOTO flywheel is made of aircraft quality 6061 Aluminum, and the friction plate is heat-treated. What does that mean? The flywheel lasts two years even with Bisi beating on it. Haha.
    515.jpg

    Random.
    516.jpg
    517.jpg

    Motor in.
    518.jpg

Bisi taking care of the shift linkage, etc.
    519.jpg

Turbo manifold on. LOOK at that thing, it is beasty.
    520.jpg

Bisi putting the TURBONETICS FMIC on.
    521.jpg

Look at the fitment. Tight, but perfect.
    522.jpg

Here are a couple pics of the chassis:

Rear interior with fresh paint and weatherproofing.
    523.jpg

    AEM Water/Methanol injection kit.
    524.jpg

Here is a parting front shot.
    525.jpg

More pics to come guys, thanks for looking.
