Bam and I did the extended top hats on my car and it helped some, but not as much as you could hope. lol But I'm going back to stock rear shocks for more travel.
that wagon is awesome, nice work man! where did you get that bull bar/light bar with the piaa lights? I have been looking everywhere for one of those for my wagon, any info would be much appreciated
That came straight from auto place in japan. There's a few floating around in the US. I have one for both wagons but it took a couple of years to get them both.
My wife thanks you for the complement. We have not been on in a while but we are still working on the cars (although the house has taken most of the funds in 2010)
I've started working on the wagons again. i have been limited to driving the red wagon in near perfect weather because any sign of rain or snow would have the wagon crying. I would end up soaked as the rust has completely destroyed the outer roof skin around the window and outer pillars. I am in the process of replacing the roof skin, inner front upper skin brace, and left and right outer pillars.
Well after looking at the roof (or lack of one i might say) I have determined that i need some fresh air this summer. Here comes a new sunroof.
The donor is a 1991 Honda Civic Hatch Back Si from Canada. After several measurements I determine that it was off but close enough. Not finding any other donor cars we proceed to the nearest pull a part and cut off a roof.
All work is being done at Ambitions Auto Salon here in Noble, Oklahoma. If your in the area stop by a say hi to the my brother in law and owner Mike Eckert
Here is the new Wagon Roof
Here is the new Hatch Roof with sunroof
Initial Fit.......Not Good
So....we've decided to just use the inner supports and front brace
Damn, I just pick up a sunroof from a hatch si yesterday and was wondering if it'd be easier to just go back, cut out the whole roof and graft it in.. you think that might work better or just cut into the oem roof since I still have it lol..? wondered obout all the mount tabs on the inside too...
While you could just use the sunroof portion of the si roof and graft it into the wagon roof i choose not to go that route for a couple of reasons.
1. After looking at both support setups it is quite obvious that the Si roof is built very well almost overbuilt. There are several ribs that span the entire width and almost the entire length of the Si roof. Because i tend to haul a lot of stuff on the roof of the wagon i can use all the extra support i can get.
2. I want a this to look as though it came from the factory in that condition. In order to get this as close to the stock location I wanted to use the front brace from the Si roof which has the bolt holes for the sunroof that the wagon roof just does not have. This allows you to bolt up the front of the sunroof and then line up the rear section of the frame of the roof and bolt up the rear of the sunroof. Now the remaining tabs can be welded into the inner pillars in the exact location they need to be in.....no measurement
So i am still grafting the outer wagon roof skin to the Si inner roof braces and portions of the outer Si roof skin...mainly just to retain the factory bends and lips.

I just realized that you only got the sunroof and wanted to update you. You need at the very least a couple of things. The front and rear Si brace which has the correct lineup for your sunroof. While you could just measure this out it's much easier to user the braces. You will also need to cut out the mounting tabs for the sides of the sun roof. These are welded to the inner pillars and there are three on each side.
Have you thought about how you are going to fold over the outer skin of the wagon where you cut it for the sunroof to fit? i thought about heating and bending/folding over but worried about warpage. Thats another reason i decided to use parts of the Si roof.
I do believe you have thought about it way more than I, I just grabbed it outta the yard and now second guessing just going back and cutting out the whole roof section so I would have all I'd need. I did look at the folds and they didn't look like really anything special, but having the whole skin would make brainstorming easier?? lol
My 88 has factory cargo rack and I'd have to move it back about 3-4" for the sunroof to sit behind the beginning of the roof slope, Or I have also been eyeing my 87 but don't know what the roofing differences are between the two generations yet.
I just notice that there will be almost noting left of the original car tonight. Here is the replacement list so far
1. Driver side front door
2. Pass side front door
3. Driver Front outer pillar
4. Pass Front outer pillar
5. Upper inner window frame
6. New wagon roof skin
7. Inner braces and sunroof cut out from 91 Si Hatch
8. Outer driver side quarter panel and wheel arch
9. Outer pass side quarter panel and wheel arch
10. Rear Hatch
11. Rear driver side corner panel
12. Rear pass side corner panel
13. Hood
Would have been easier to list what was going to be original.....
Went ahead and started the brake line tuck as well......best place to put the prop valve in a wagon
In order to get easy access to the rear brake lines i flip the prop valve on the bracket
Here is the best location that i have found for brake line tucks. the bracket is welded in place but when flipping the prop valve i made it so it would be easy to unbolt from the bracket without taking the prop valve apart
