Sweet! I love that tape deck! And the vent & air control switches are awesome too...
Quite like the tape deck as well, although I'm in a bit of a kerfuffle. It doesn't get all the radio station I listen to nor doesnt it (or not as far as im aware, im no sound tech dude) give me the ability to install a sub/amp. Will most probably end up running an aftermarket head unit, but try to get one thats styled to looked reasonably factory in there.
Can install amp fine, you could always run a splitter to the RC in on the amp, 1 signal goes to the regular headunit (Could run a band expander... or just listen to boss 'Radio Active' for life at 89FM), the other goes to a hidden aux port in glove box. Means you could retain complete original on the surface.

Really? Very interesting young man. Will talk to you more about it when I pop over for the shocks
Nice and thorough. What a great read too.
Enjoy it buddy.
Cheers mate, I havent been able to drive it much it since I got it home but already love it
Took the day off work today to fix the oil leak and Dan666 popped over to give me a hand, sank u Dan! :encouragement:
Couldnt find the correct seal at the local seal suppliers as its quite specific, so had to contact honda. Hoping to recieve the new/the correct seal tomorrow then itle all go back together.
While I had the avo off I decided to attack the interior. This thing was a mess.
This is the sort of dirt and dust that was all over all the interior. Found all sorts of odd stuff while cleaning as well.
And after a few hours this is the results, I went through 3 buckets of dirty water.
Will vacuume the car a couple more times this week to get rid of the last little bits of grass thats stuck on to the carpet. Need to give the interior panels a wipe down daily to bring back some moisture in to the plastic trims and then just weekly. The rear seats just needed a vacuume but the front seats need to be Rug Docter'd before they will be clean and tidy.
And this is the beast at the moment waiting to be put back together.
You would miss the power of the WRX haha it is fun to drive though.
Finally replaced the leaky seal. This is the damaged seal, its suppose to be one item although it easily split when we removed it, meaning it was most probably quite worn and brittle.
And then the new seal, here is the part number for anybody that needs it in the future.
Front Diff Oil seal: 60x38x11
Once fitted, the area degreased, everything assembled and new gearbox fluids I drove the car and check for leaks. There is now no oil leaking from the seal I replaced, although there is still a little bit of oil dripping from somewhere. A very very small amount (about the size of my thumb nail from overnight) is dripping from the middle at the lowest point of the gearbox, maybe there is a small leak coming from one of the drive shafts, not sure. At this stage I'm not tooo worried about it, just need to monitor it to see if it gets any worse or better.
Iv also bought a blanket for the rear seats, Dan666 told me of a place called Pete's emporium which is one of those stores that sells everything and anything for cheap. The plan is to trim it so its covers the rear seats nicely and do some sowing to allow me to still use the seat belts and headrests. No pics of the blanket sorry, but here's the beagle running under its own steam again
I'm sure your GF would be stoked to have another Shuttle :encouragement:
I must say I really like what you are doing with the CRV, that sort of area is untouched ground for NZ. Well done (Y)
What diameter are your wheels? They look like the 14 inch wheels we got on Del Sol Si in the US but I read somewhere that the Shuttle Beagle wheels are 15 inch. Just curious, you know?

Pretty sure they are JDM EG wheels, like EG5/8 (D15b Vtec) potentially EG6/9 wheels?

The crank seal/rear main seal/etc would be my bet. Pretty common to go on every car in existence.
You can remove the gearbox protector plate between the engine and gearbox at the very bottom and put your finger inside there. Should be able to feel if there is engine oil there. Nothing to worry about if it is, but it will get slightly worse over time. It's one of those jobs that you do when gearbox is out for clutch/flywheel jobs.

Correct, they come on Egs as well.
Yep, know exactly what your talking about.
I can remember it being a bit oily there but I assumed it was from the original leak. Will just keep monitoring it for if it gets worse.
Cheerio
Thanks! I thought it didn't make a whole lot of sense for a near identical wheel to be made only an inch different in diameter and usually the Honda designers are pretty darn logical, lol.
No, the ones he's talking about are commonly called "mini fat-fives" and are 14 inchers. They look exactly like the Beagle wheels, with concealed lugs.

Which is exactly what I have on my shuttle?
Update:
Had my first chance this weekend to clean the exterior of the beagle.
Quite happy with the outcome, although will definitly need a couple more good polishes before all the scratches are completely gone.
These are the sorts of scratches I'm dealing with, not really to bad just needs some TLC.
Left after a quick polish, right unpolished.
And the outcome:
Also got some time to put the blanket I got on to the rear seats. Was very simple to do, originally I thought it would need some sowing work but after a couple of experiments all it needed was some tiny holes for the headrests and some pins to hold the blanket in place.
Put my 1st sticker on the car, a CJC vintage car collection. CJC is a car small New zealand car club that Im apart of.
And got some Filipino nice smelling goodness refresher to get rid of the dirt smell the car had when I got it.
Also decided to go check out the local wrecker to see if I can find any lips or something interesting.
Some interesting things spotted.
Legacy DIY Cab
Fairly straight Shuttle Pro
And a very very tidy Ak Shuttle, interior is super clean and body very straight for its age.
I didn't find any Da or Volvo/VW lips
Did grab 2 other lips though, one off some Renault van and another off a old Mitsubishi Mirage.
I now realise its quite a useless picture, sorry lol
They lips measure up ok compared the the front and rear Shuttle bumpers, not 100% sure if they fit but will play around and if not it was only $18 for the lips so not too much harm done. Sure had a good time rummaging around.
In the afternoon me and some mates took the shuttle for a decent drive, once home the car stood for about 3 hours and I came back to this...
Jacked the car up again to have closer look, and as mentioned above by Geoff/SiRge it looks to be the crank seal as there is oil coming out where the gearbox/flywheel protector plate is. Cleaned up the area a bit where the oil is coming out off, then started the car to let it idle for a couple of mins, switched it off and then jacked it up again, the next few pics show the location of the oil leak.
Iv decided I'm going to go ahead and remove the gearbox to replace the seal. Im not going to worry about doing the clutch at the same time, it still has a decent amount of life. Also noticed the engine is a bit smokey after decell, which is most likely valve stem seals. Its not unheard of for an engine with 290,xxxkms to smoke a bit so its nothing new, Once the leak is fixed I'll put a bit thicker oil in the oll'thing and see how it goes
The Shuttle is going replace my Ek9 for daily duties, so a bit of smoke doesn't bother me to much.
For now I'm a bit hectic at work so going to try and organise either some time off to replace the seal or get the work done.
A bit of a bummer with the oil leaks but Iv had some cars in worse situations, so life's not to bad. Onwards and upwards!
Since you are taking the gearbox out, why dont you try find a lower km motor? I couldnt give away my old SOHC ZC with 165kms on it, took it to the scrap man

Really? I haven't considered that to be honest because I'm a bit low on funds at the moment and I assumed itle be a few hundred.
Ill give a couple of places a call tomorrow and see what sort of price I can get one for.
Cheers for that :encouragement:
Been calling around just looking at engine prices, strong for Honda wants to charge me $600 for the block and head alone, sans gearbox.
Gtfo Strong for Honda.

Will have a peak when im around
Oh that could work. Will inspect Geoff's seat, if its a no go then Ill take you up on that offer. Thanks for that!

I am now filipino it smells quite nice!
Quite surprised it was getting wrecked for how tidy it was.
Aw sorry man, didn't mean to get the same material as you. My bad.
