We have another public holiday here in NZ tomorrow so the plan is to pull the motor and trans out of the shuttle and if I can do it in good time I am hoping to get the DOHC ZC and gbox mounted in the hole so this weekend I can get it all running.

I am so looking forward to taking it for a strop up the road once she is all running!

Will you be doing the swap alone? I'm sure your daughters will get in on the action! Lol
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
The Mother-in-law is going to look after the kids once my wife goes to work so no assistance from the daughters today lol but I am hoping a couple of mates are going to pop over and give me a hand later.

Managed to get the sohc ZC and trans out and the new motor and box in with the assistance of SiRge and another mate of ours.
It is a pretty drama free swap, a couple of little things we had to change and I still need to mount selector arms ad get it running but I am absolutely stoked with the amount we achieved today.

    Oh god im sexy
  • 90shuttle90shuttle Senior Wagonist
Hahahahha!! Man that picture is hilarious! How does it drive now?

Just read its almost ready haha... Been at work too long!
Any who... Hurry up! I want to see a video of this thing in action!
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
She runs! I still need to fill the gbox oil and sort out why she is throwing codes but she is running.

I got her started with the auto ecu and it threw a couple of codes, so I switched ecu's and now she is throwing 3 different codes. 6, 9 and 10 which according to information I found on a honda forum the codes are 6 water temp sensor, 9 cylinder sensor and 10 intake air temp sensor.
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
Well after an afternoon of checking bolts were tight, plugs were plugged in correctly, wires weren't damaged etc I filled the gbox with oil and took her for the first official "test drive".
It goes pretty good and I am over the moon that it is now manual and not auto. I still need to put my 2 & 1/4" exhaust on and sort out why I still have these bloody fault codes but I have achieved the goal of getting the swap done by the end of this weekend and we did it with a day to spare.

Huge shout out to SiRge and our good mate Steve because without these two it wouldnt be done yet!! I will chuck some pics up tomorrow.

So now that the swap is done I have to decide what else I want to do to this wagon, add a turbo maybe??
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
I really should have taken some pics during the swap but I didnt, so here is one with her sitting on the ground after I took her for a drive

I have been reading up on how to sort out fault code 9 all week and it is doing my head in because there is so much incomplete info around. I have tried a few different things and nothing is fixing it so far, so I decided to check the cam timing and it looks to be a tooth off on the exhaust side.
This is usually one of the reasons it will throw DTC 9.
This has confussed me becuse when I took the dohc zc out of the ef7 it was running fine and not throwing DTC 9 but now it is in the shuttle it is.

So I will adjust the cambelt and go from there.

1 day to get it in the hole and god knows how many more days of trouble shooting :(
  • ludemanludeman Wagonist
Code 9 on the dohc zc usually means your ex cam is off 1 tooth

Yeah thats what I said too.

What I am stumped with is, it was running when I took it out of the crx and not throwing codes but now it is and there has been no change to timing etc. The engine came out of the crx, sat around for 2 days and then went into the shuttle.

Will adjust timing once I sort a way to get the crank pulley nut off, most of my tools are at work.

Park a couple of shuttle at my place for too long and they start to multiply!

*Not actually mine, it belongs to SiRge. It is a parts wagon that we picked up yesterday, so this means I have got a rear window :D

    Just cos I could!
It would have been good to have them lined up in a row but there wasn't enough room.

Oh god the beagle is fun to drive, sounds 50x better without the muffler too. Actually recommend the mod to everyone running a stock shuttle.
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
Tried in vain today to try and crack the crank pulley bolt off, it didnt work and I got frustrated and bolted everything back together. I cleaned the throttle body and that has made a little difference to the way she is running
I am going to take it into a mates workshop next saturday and get the rattle gun on it.

I have pretty much finished pulling the parts I want off my crx so that should be off to the scrap yard this coming week.
As per usual there was bugger all point in taking any pics of what I was doing and a build thread is so god damn boring without any pics.......
So here are some pics of this badass ratrod truck that was parked next door this morning when I was moving my cars, it belongs to my neighbours father and the attention to detail is wicked so many neat and quirky touches.

Make sure your ecu pin is making good contact with the harness. I had a hell of a time with my mpfi swap and a code all because the pin wasn't crimped all the way so it wasn't making perfect contact with the ecu. Checked timing a bunch of times if you think it's on then it most likely is. Take the pin out and just push on the little tabs at the front of it a little and see if that sorts out your problem.
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
Sweet cheers for the info. Looking at the cam gears the exhaust cam arrow is pointing straight up and the intake is pointing on a slight angle, most pics I have looked at show that the intake looks right but the exhaust looks off.
I dont have very much time to spend working on it at the mo and with winter fast approaching working outside is pretty miserable due to my driveway and carport being like a wind tunnel, I get hammerd by the rain and wind.

On a brighter note, SiRge brought me some goodies from the beagle. Rear speaker pods and a unmolested spare wheel cover and carpet with no hole in it!
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
Spent a little time today mucking around with the Shuttle, replaced the spare wheel cover and carpet from the one the SiRge gave me out of the beagle so no more gapping hole :D I also scored some rear speaker pods out of the beagle too.

    728.jpg

Pretty stoked with how much better it looks.
I also took her for a drive. After warming up for a while she ran pretty sweet and here is some proof that she got out of my driveway

Next mission is to modify my 2 & 1/4" exhaust from the crx and get that sucker bolted up.
I really wish there were more hours in the week so i could spend a decent amount of time sorting all the little niggly bits.

and in other news I drove this bad boy from Speedtech motorsport (local tuning shop) back to the dealer ship, I ran out of fuel about 3km from speedtech so I had to sit on the side of the road waiting for someone to turn up with some fuel but once I got going I found out that its pretty quick, 475kw of supercharged bumble bee power! It is RHD too, so im not sure if that was done locally or before it was imported here.

It's not raining or blowing a gale here tonight so I set up my flood lights and started trying to sort some of the niggly bits that need to be done. Its has been leaking a little water so I warmed her up and tracked it back to the heater tap, I think we may have damaged it during the swap. I may get away with using a screw up type hose clamp to sort the issue.

Speedo hasn't been working so I pulled the speedo cluster out and made sure that end of the cable was sitting correctly and while I was in there I pulled the plug that indicates Park/Drive etc so it no longer illuminates, didnt go for a drive so dont know if the speedo is working yet.

My front strut brace has been hitting on the top of the intake so I mucked around for a while trying to get it sitting better but got frustrated and decided I have had enough for today.

No real update on the shuttle today but an update of sorts. My EF7 crx that I have had for the best part of 4 years left on the back of a truck yesterday to go to its final resting place. I got it for free originally thrashed it and had a good time, stole engine, gbox etc and sold it for $100 as a shell and I can go and take any parts I want from it at the scrap yard :D

Here are the final 2 pics before she left on the truck

    337.jpg

Its Sunday tomorrow so I think some work on the shuttle will happen as long as the weather is playing semi nice.
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
Got the speedo working today cleaned a few interior things and generally put things together on the inside since it all got pulled apart when we did the pedal box swap and manual conversion.
I acquired some Thule roof racks a while back before I had anything to use them on, they are the type that attach to the oem roof rails so I decided to put them on today aswell, I think I like the look of them but I would love a wind fairing to complete the look.
I ended up down at the beach, its getting cold over in this part of the world so I wasn't there very long.

Things are going slow and it is frustrating me but I don't have alot of free time. We are however looking at moving to a new house and the place we are looking at has a nice big garage :D

Need to make a copy of your wind fairing more like it :P The bars aren't actually too bad..

Took her out to a lowkey meet last night and got some good reactions to how she looks. I am hoping to get a couple of pics that my mate took and I will chuck them up when I can.

I have made a list of things I need to get to tidy her up a bit and make her a little more functional.

Rear mudflaps - doesnt have any
LHS tailight - mine is cracked
Tailgate struts - sick of it falling on my head
LHS rear quater side trim that is by the wheel arch - missing when I got the car
LHS door/window rubber - also missing when I got the car
    Glovebox - broken
cargo cover - doesn't have one
RHS front guard - could possibly fix the dents
Front and rear bumpers - mine are ugly and in bad shape
    Wind fairing for roof rack

So I will try and acquire these bits before summer so I can get them all fitted and spend the summer cruising in this shuttle and hopefully I will have a chance to pull the AK off the road and give her some loving.

This evening I managed to get some NZDM DC2 Integra front seats, not sure if they are going to work and if they don't it's all good because I haven't commited to buying them yet and my mate has nowhere to store them so they will just stay with me until they sell if I don't want them. I will get some pics of them tomorrow :)
  • 666DAN666DAN Wagonist
    These are the seats
    766.jpg
    767.jpg

They feel nice to sit in and they are dirt cheap so if they will work easily they will be a good score.

Some new c.v joints that are still to go on
    768.jpg

    The gearstick surround
    769.jpg

and a mad JDM lighter :P

Rear mudflaps - I have some for you
LHS tailight - I probably have
Tailgate struts - I probably have
LHS rear quater side trim that is by the wheel arch - I probably have
    LHS door/window rubber - I probably have
Glovebox - I dont have a working one, I might have to do some plastic/new metal bracket fixes for the ones I have
cargo cover - dont have spare....
RHS front guard - I have one, unsure if its better than yours though
Front and rear bumpers - Take the beagle ones, cant say I really give a crap about rear fog lights etc..
Wind fairing for roof rack - want to fudge up a custom one based on mine?
  • 90shuttle90shuttle Senior Wagonist
Damn! SiRge is hooking you up 666! Lol... Great to see wagoners joining together ;)

    Looks good so far man!

I'll check back for more updates!
