im sure the pan would need to be modified im just wondering if theres gunna be more than just the pan that the t-case runs into can u tell from this pic of my old blown rt tranny if u modified the pan would the main caps and rods clear?
man, it's really hard to say from that picture... I wish I had given it a try when I had the auto 4wd tranny still layin around, but I just can't say for sure. Might try calling bisimoto, he usually answers the phone himself his name is Bisi, and he's extrememly knowledgeable. He even has a wagon himself but it's fwd.
Little update, I was all wrong about it having too much oil, I was just trippin. I did a compression check and had 210 210 90 60... perfect in two holes and terrible in the other two. I just replaced the headgasket and had the same results so, I'm thinking it's rings.... Only thing I can come up with is I blew the rings on initial startup due to the "starting fluid" which is on the verge of being explosive. I'm pretty bummed but I'll get it straightend out. I'll probly do an "in car rebuild" basically pop the pistons out from the top, replace rings and rod bearings, hone it, then slap it back together.
On a good note, I bought another wagon off a guy that was broke down on the road, light blue RT4wd m/t with a ton of miles. So I scavenged a fender, perfect front bumper, perfect corner lights etc.. Threw my busted up parts on it and now I'm tryin to sell it, should sell quick. So, the body on my wagon just improved a lot, and I get a few bucks in my pocket. What a lucky day! Only paid $200 for this one, and all it needed was an alternator! I had only stopped to see if the guy needed a hand, see what being a good semaritan (sp?) gets you?
Oh yeah, I also got some nice parts off some "cash for clunkers" cars at my dealership! Obama is pimpin my ride! I got a pretty much brand new Yakima roof rack that fits my car perfect with air deflector. I also snagged some window visors from a couple random cars and came up with a set that fits pretty well! It even covers the rear door glass the correct way going front to back rather than just covering the larger window... I used fronts form a Honda pasport and rears from a Nissan Pathfinder both circa 1996. I'll get some pics of those up soon so you guys can see how well the fit. The rears fit the best. Ok, that's it for now!
So I finally got off my arse and tore the engine down today. I left it in the bay and just pulled the oil pan and head off, pushed the pistons out to have a look-see. Doesn't look too hot!
Busted ring lands on cylinder 3 and 4... Too bad. Too bad. Good news is all the pieces were contained in their respective areas, so it didn't do any damage to the cylinder walls. A quick hone will make 'em as good as new. I'm convinced it was the starting fluid since this problem was there from first start-up... and non-coincidentally the vacuum port that I sprayed the starting fluid in sits dead in the middle of these two chambers. Talk about an pre-detonation. Oh well, looks like I'll be ordering two new pistons and a ring set. Cheers
Well, I got the motor all back together... I decided to throw my Gude cam in finally, I've been sitting on it for over a year. I ran it for about 30 minutes yesterday at idle, and took a short video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2WJpr046DY Just an iphone vid. but gives you the idea. I'm so in love with how an quick this engine revs with a lightweight flywheel, crank pulley, deleted balance shafts. I've realistically reduced the rotational mass by about 20-22lbs. Today I'm gonna focus on getting my new fender, new bumper, lenses, etc on the car. Shouldn't be too long before it's first test drive. Really need to get my wideband installed too.
I'm bringing this back up because I will be acquiring this car. Plans are to make it back to rt4wd with a semi built a6 for boost. Maybe 20 psi for daily use. Will be a great winter rig once all done up with better rear diff and maybe a welded viscus?
