Starting to build my wagon! start up vid on pg.3

I finally started working on my wagon, just wanted to share a few pics of the progress and kind of paint a picture of whats going to be happening to my wagon over the next several months. The big leap was getting my old CRX out of the garage and finally getting the new wagon in to start working on it. So first thing having it in the garage, I decided a wire tuck would be a good place to start... The gist of it is unpinning all the underhood wiring (headlights, horn, radiator fan, etc), pulling it into the cabin through the firewall, then cutting, lengthening and re-routing the wires to go through the frame rails under the front fenders. The other part is routing your engine harness plugs into the cabin in a discrete area so they are not clearly visable. So far I'm about 2/3 done with the drivers side... Heres a couple pics of the progress.

Having the whole dash out will give me a good opprotunity to swap over to my manual CRX pedal assy. as well.
Once the wire tuck is more complete I'll be dropping the factory: Engine, tranny, auto shifter yadda yadda. Then I can start mocking up my new engine tranny combo which is carried over from my old CRX.

F23A7 from a 1998 Odyssey with an F22a head, Bisimoto F2D adapter plate, and a CRX Si (D-series) trans. The turbo setup there is going by by, bigger better (NICER LOOKING) things on the way.
Once mock up is done on the engine mounting it will be removed, and all the holes in the bay will be welded up, smoothed over, all seams welded and smoothed, brake prop. valve relocated, kick ass paint job and it'll be all set.
Drove out to Wasilla Alaska the other day (Palin fans HOLLA!) and scaveged some parts off a 90 LX sedan... Here's the booty

Power window reg's, window switches, painted door handles, power lock actuators... Hella nice guy, $70 for everything. Well that's it for now, I'll post up more progress as it comes.

Don't mind the masking tape, that's just my way of numbering the wires so I don't loose track of them..
Here's a shot of the bay, now that the old motor is gone and the wiring is all cleaned up it's starting to look alright.
This is where my engine wiring harness will come through the cabin now... Rather than on the top of each shock tower, the plugs will come through the hole left from the auto-shift cable.
This is what my engine harness looked like before I started working on it... Except mine was greasy, and very aged. All of the electrical tape was either peeling or cracking, and some of the wires were pretty crisp and brittle from the heat, especially over the transmission.
So I completely unloomed the entire harness, re-routed it the way I liked, repaired bad wires, removed un-used wires (a/t related). Then I de-pinned all of the plugs one at a time and re-loomed the harness using this nice braided nylon. This is what took the longest... I probably have 20 hours wrapped up in just this harness. Here's a couple shots of how it turned out.
While I had the plugs de-pinned I also switched all of the ugly obd-0 plugs to the newer gray colored 0bd1+ plugs, even where it wasn't necessary.
That's it for now, I'll keep this posted as progress is made. The next post I should have the engine on the stand for the balance shaft elimination kit, then a mock-up install to see how it fits.
maybe later on which is what - cable/connector
i may say thnx
: )
also great job on the engine harness. i like to see people do things the "right way" haha.
and nice work on the harness!
i almost want to say that Rywire might have some competition :P .
I mean, I understand why you may wanna go with a FWD setup. But why the extra fuss of buying a 4wd and converting it?
I'm sure you have your reasons. Just curious what they are.
ps- I really wish I would have used the nice stuff on my wire harness when I did my tuck. I just ran out of time/$$
Oh, and the extra fuss of converting... I had my heart set on a Civic wagon. A m/t fwd would have been my preference, but this one came along and couldn't pass it up. $350, and I sold the d16 for $300... So, your technically looking at a $50 car
do work son... we all wanna see this thing run!
ill wait and pls keep me posted.
wagon..........................4ever..........................
Put it inside the car under the dash, same thing with the map sensor and such.
Evol is right, I de-loomed the harness inside the car and re-routed quite a few things. For example the injector resistor box.. I cut the wires for the injector resistor box, then unwound them from the interior harness untill the resistor box was in a good spot, then clipped the wires to the appropriate length, then soldered and heat shrinked my connections. I did that with quite a few things to keep them under the dash rather than in the bay.
I haven't gotten anything really interesting done on the wagon. I pulled the factory power steering rack and threw it away. I removed and heavily cleaned the lower rear crossmember from the engine bay and gave it some tattoo's just for the hell of it...
I got that back in place and also installed the manual steering rack from a CRX Si. Much quicker ratio than the rt-4wd power steering unit. I did manage to get my right frame rail re-finished, it was pretty shitty looking from where a previous owner had a battery explosion or leak or something. Color match turned out pretty damn good. Then I tagged the frame rail with the cars name. Just something to make the bay look a little different.
And got carried away and kept going... I will probably wipe this all off and do it again now that I have a better idea of how I want it to look. For the life of me I couldn't get a better picture than this... The silver paint just disappears when the flash hits it. Says Rust in peace if you can't make it out in the pic.
That's it for now, I'll be doing more mechanical work to get coverage of over the next week or two. Thanks for lookin
It's a little bigger turbo than I wanted... But F it. Given the size and location of this turbo I got something to spool it up a little quicker... Picked up a zex dry 50 shot kit for a really good deal. The bottle is from a different kit but who cares. I'll end up putting a kick ass paint job on the bottle before it gets installed...
And I blacked out my new hasport billet F2d mounts. Raw aluminum just isn't my thing.
Ok, seriously that's it for now. Thanks for looking.
2.3 is a whole 'nother ballgame, see my EVO.
And here's the shot that made my day.... Everything clears the inner structure, no cutting, no hacking...
The motor is back out of the car now so I could install the clutch and a few etc.. But will be going back in in the next day or two, I'm just waiting on my fabricator friend to get my tensioner pulley bolt shortend.
