so after seeing what i thought Mrm3 did, i decided to cut into my strut towers. ya my a arms were bottomed out so cut away on passenger side first. it was super cold out and after we did the one side first we realized ya we didnt need to cut that much out. drivers side is much better. still probably gonna box it in so not really finished and a arm still hits but up where its bolted. ya welds are ugly but i cant complain with a crappy 110 welder from ebay

so after 3 days of being pissed off that the car is shaking under power and got worse yesterday. couldnt figure out what it really was. checked everything. motor mount, tie rods, axles are new, wheels are new and balanced. Even rode on the motor while a buddy drove in his neighbor hood but still couldnt figure it out. could see the wheel hoping though. so took it to our buddy at les schwab and he drove it and right away said yup its wheel hop. And just FYI the day we got the wheels was the same day we lowered the car all the way down and that was when it started doing it. i thought it was the diamond racing wheels but nope it was the car was to low and was causing that to happen... WEIRD, but yup raised up about an inch and its a night and day differance. still just a lil hop but maybe the yokohama tires are trying hard to grip on wet pavement or maybe still lil to much negative camber with small stretch tires.

Please let me know if you have ever had that happen due to the car being to low or please tell me how your car is super low and how you did it so there is no wheel hop

  • why not just get different wheel studs? (i know nothing about older cars but figured it was worth a shot?)
  • PavementwagoPavementwago Senior Wagonist

Some how I missed this thread, I am right by you in Tacoma.

Man I have been wanting to do my shock towers so bad but im afraid! do you notice an instant difference in suspension travel?

The lug nuts look rad on the white wheels.

whats up over there in tac town.. well i was worried about doing it but needed to cause it was bad. did notice it helped but then like you could see in my recent post. had to raise car up a lil. still helps out and also put 3 washers under each a arm bolt so it gave it that much more room..

ya always sucks when shit gets stolen. people are just haters and think they have to steal instead of buy it... no full coverage for me and right now the truck sits on pathfinder wheels. the guy with black truck has a chrome set of new caddy wheels and a set of nissan titans. so i kinda get my choice. just dont have tires on them.

That's a bada** truck! Are you going to get extended lug nut studs for your wagon? I heard(but don't quote me) that it is unsafe to run the open ended lugnuts on standard studs. Some guy told me that after he seen mine. I have the extended studs but no money to put them on.

I got mine for free a long time ago when my buddy in daimond bar was cleaning out his garage. I think a set of 16 goes for like $60. Mine are ARP and I have the set of 20 which is cool just in case I mess 1 or 2 up in the process of putting them on.

ill have to check that out. ya im lucky when buying the muteki lug nuts you get 20 also. would have been real pissed if i had to buy another set at 100 bucks... wish i could go back lower right now but will probably have to put stock a arms back on or get another set of the cheap adjustable ones since i hacked at mine so they would clear going up all the way

Do you have pics of it after you raised it? $100 for the lug nuts? Sheezus, I paid $55 for my blox and thought that was steep. Than again you did get a better brand than me.

  • JDMWago666JDMWago666 Senior Wagonist
I stay in Idaho so our temp isn't much different from yours lol. Not only is it raining but it's cold, especially for me since I'm still getting use to the temps, 'm originally from Cali where it only gets like high 70s.

Thanks for the info on the cut towers. Do you plan on fabbing a cover for them? In our rainy weather the bay would get trashed.

When I got some custom extended tophats the ride quality improved dramatically.

Since were on the subject of extended studs I remember reading a few different times that some Acura studs work on our hubs but they are the same length as the extened ARP ones. Way cheaper too. I want to say it was from a Legend?
