  • Well i got what i am going to call the clutch release spring. Point of advice for anyone who is planning on doing a clutch on a manual wagon, either an RT or a 2wd, before you even go to do the swap make sure you order this part.

    Honda part number - 22851-PH8-000

    570.jpg

Basically what it does is pull the throw out bearing back down after you release the clutch. When you pull off your tranny and look inside you'll see this

    571.jpg

there is a bolt right in the center that you undo and then pull out the clutch leaver. once that is out the spring and throw out bearing will spring out and when you flip it over you'll see how the spring holds it in.

    572.jpg

if you look at the ends of the spring they are both bent over at an angle that slides into the holes on the back of the throw out bearing, most likely you're are broken as were mine and bams when i contacted him about it.

Dealer listed price is $5.25, after markup its around $9. No one around here (Portland, Oregon) stocks the part so honda had to order it out of california. Took about 4 days to get to me, probably due to holiday shipping traffic.
  • Nice build!
  • UPDATE!!!

So i have a couple of things to update tonight. First i have kind of been holding off installing my transfer case because i wanted to get a new bearing since i have replaced everything else. I went to honda with this transfer case blow up.

    3.png

and told them i need #20, to which they replied, tough shit its discontinued. So i then went to discount import auto, they cross referenced the honda part # and came up with diddly as well. The sales guy pointed me to a company here in portland named mcguire bearing. I gave them a call and told them my dilemma and the sales guy told me to bring down the bearing i wanted to replace and he would measure it and see what they could do. I ran down there and within 10 minutes i had a brand new replacement.

I made a post in the engine/drivetrain section about the company. the thread can be viewed here:

    viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15495

Tomorrow night we're going to get back at it and get the transfer case together and installed. I went to the local pick-n-pull yard and picked up a spare transfer case and guts. Here is a pretty good look inside the transfer case and how things work in there if you have not ever taken yours apart or are just curious.

this is a view from the side that would be against the transmission

here is a view of what you would see if you just crawled under your car and looked up at it.

Hopefully tomorrow night i have a fully assembled motor and its ready to go back in jane for the first time in three months.
  • got some work done today. backlash set and set to perfection!

Hope you're going to spruce up that heat shield to go along with that sweet ass paint job on the motor!
  • really like the VC good job!

Lol I totally have a header to install but I can't do it until Jane is back at my place where the welder is. So I totally fucked the dog and scraped my rotors and tossed my pads, cuz I needed new ones, totally didn't order them until yesterday. So we will be able to start her but not drive :(
  • That sensor that sits right above the oil filter is the pressure switch for the oil pressure dummy light on the dash. Depending on how badly it's broken, you could end up with a huge oil leak and low or no oil pressure on start up. BEWARE!

It was just one of the two pins off the back. Last night we foind out the injector o rings were toast when it spit fuel from the fuel rail. Got everything now and were bout to get started and hope for the best in round two.
  • The oil pressure sender above the oil filter is only 1 pin. If the one that broke is a 2 pin with a green epoxy like core around the pins, that's the thermostat switch that turns on your rad fan when the engine coolant temp gets high enough. You can easily bypass that one by jumping the 2 pins together, but then the fan will be on all the time, and your engine will take longer to warm up (if at all in colder temps).

Thank you much. We got it all straight.
  • Well after two days of battle, and a lot of sweat and pain, Jane lives. She backed out of the garage on her own power for the first time in almost four months. Today is a day for celebration!

She still has not taken her maiden voyage yet, that is going to be tomorrow. We got her all warmed up, checked fluids and listened for random sounds. Small exhaust leak from where the oem header bolts tot he down pipe (no gasket yet, and missing one nut for a stud). Small coolant leak on one of the hoses that goes to the intake manifold (will replace tomorrow). The throttle cable is sticking a bit when we rev it, doesn't like to spring back down to regular idle, we will be taking a look at it more in depth tomorrow and see what we can do about it.

Got the new rotors and pads on as well as steel braided lines.

Also replaced that sensor jaker was telling me about, works great now! and i picked up my injector O rings and the sleeves for them, fucking sleeves are $15 A PIECE!!!! rape i say rape!

    417.jpg

This is our makeshift intake for the time being until we fab something up, just needed something to work until we get the bugs fixed and the car is stable.

  • Great update!!! Our brakes look the same now! Except I want those sweet lines. lol

503 I'm not a gold fan but dam it your doing it well. Love ur touch on the valve cover.

appreciate the comments. literally it went gold because thats the only color high temp we had on our shelf haha. We were waiting for parts and i wanted something to do lol.

So on for the update. i have put 100 miles on the motor so far and have had little issues. My only real problem is a high idle. It has something to do with the vacuum system. I can pull a line off the intake manifold and it idles fine. Ill post a pic of what one im talking about tomorrow. Anybody have any idea on how to fix it? i figure i'll get a copy of the vacuum system and go at it from there.

other than that, runs like a champ. i figure i'll drain the oil and check things out around 150-200 miles, probably being a little over cautious but whatever....$2000 on a motor i have full rights haha.

Soon as the motor is completely broken in, i'll fab up my header and get the full 2.5" exhaust on her.
  • Maybe check the hose for blockage, like how a shop vac pulls harder when it has something stuck in the hose.

Did use redline shock proof gear oil in her though. Awesome.

Shit... I'd be swapping out Napa oil and filter like every couple hundred for sure.

PS- pics or it didn't happen
  • Well i start my new job tomorrow. so i'll probably have one of the guys drain my oil for me (so i dont have to do it on the ground) see if any metal comes out and see what the oil looks like, new filter, new oil. then i'll change it at 500 miles and thats when i'll use my good filter and good oils.

i'll shoot some photos when its not pouring rain/snow...i wish the snow would stick out here :-/
  • Did she see the snow?
  • Lol barely. It started snowing at about 10pm (I was damn near in bed) and then by the time I headed to work (9am) it was damn near gone
