No i havent abandoned this car. Ive actually been working very hard on it. Im getting very very close!

Soooooooo, a small update and no pics. yet (its the last thing i wanna do after shooting images all day every day)....

ill get pics up on monday....i promise

so all the suspension, driveline, motor work, etc is done. the car has been completely stripped down and awaits metalwork on rear quarters. will need a newer (non rusty) rear diff mount sometime soon as this ones a bit rusted, and id just like it replaced. really other than that, its ready for paint and to be reassembled!

now just waiting on my rear cargo plastics, clear corners, ZC 89 cluster, and a few other items from across the pond:) no bullbar, not my thing....

    things finally done:

VHT fabric dye for rear seats (worked extremely well, just used Bulldog before i sprayed it)
SEM painted all vinyl Satin black, again, prep is key
replaced the b16a cams for mint 19k GSR Cams
willwood front brake kit and new rear drums, pads, hardware, etc
96 Spec ITR booster and MC
    PIC coilovers installed
    Skunk2 Pro upper a-arms
K-Sport toe and rear camber kits
all new Honda OEM balljoints and tie rod ends
FUll energy bushing kit. Including ALL bushings
New front wheel hubs, OEM Honda
Honda CRX Si steering rack rebuilt with new boots, new bushing, etc
rebuilt both rear Cv axles with new grease, new hardware, new boots, etc
Stainless Russell lines rear, willwood front
Fullrace radiator and trac bar installed
    Spoon magnetic drain bolts
    Hondata IM gasket
    Odyssey 680 battery
    fixed slop in shifter
Fitted rear midwing (finally got my replacement in the mail)
cut foglight holes in rear bumper
started installing Dynamat on rear quarters, roof, and foot floorboards
fitted/dremelled out my flat clear EG sidemarkers into fenders

Just a few things left to do. Mounting the roofrack and roof running bars today. Bodywork is all that's left. Which includes fabbing up my Tanabe rear sway, fixing the minimal rust, and making the EF9 headlights work. Might use a EF8 hood if we must....

Might just replace the alternator just for good measure, and still need to find/trade my grey RT carpet for some blue....

im very happy with the progress!

    anyways, ill have pics soon...

Have you done any test fitting yet? It's not a bolt on, you know that right?
  • FakeJDMEF8FakeJDMEF8 Senior Wagonist
Yeah, just using the ef9 healights, rad support, hood and bumper. It's pretty close. The hood will need some persuation, but otherwise it's going well:)
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
wow cant belive that used to be mine! even brittany was like wow.
  • CharbCharb Administrator
What's with the blue? Only thing that's gonna hold this car back IMHO.

This car is one of my favs to have ridden in. Wish you were closer...
  • FakeJDMEF8FakeJDMEF8 Senior Wagonist
    i know, i know....

ill break out the 5d next week, but for now....my shitty old iPhone will workkk...

fitted the USDM hatch wing on my other RT...

iSPY my CRX.....VIS carbon hood, and new engine to be dropped in soon:)

and tein stechs on illuminas for suspension. no cutting has been done...and probably wont...i carry 100-200lbs of gear a day in the hatch and it makes it sit perfectttt.

lots of good stuff so far.

I cant tell you how happy I am to see this thread. warms my little heart.

Youve gone apeshit man. Its badass. Your dedication is beyond what I would have expected for my old wagon. Really good to see.

    sickkk
    1=!!!1
  • i dont think i have seen many black wags... nice. do u want to give it to me? let me give u a hint . the correct answer is yes lolol
  • You going to paint it or leave it flat?
  • JDMWago666JDMWago666 Senior Wagonist
Very nice! Like the black wagon.
  • FakeJDMEF8FakeJDMEF8 Senior Wagonist
the black wagon is the stock, 1991 RT4wd with no real mods.

the one thats down to metal is the CRV/gsr wagon. it will be painted cargo khaki brown with all black interior and tan RSX type s seats up front!

picked up a bunch of stuff from a hommie in Latvia; rear fogs, ZC 88-89 cluster w/7k redine, front clears, rear JDM tails, EF9 headlights, etc....

once it warms up a bit, ill be finishing it. too cold to paint and too cold to finish the dynamat!

next week it will be dropped off at the bodyshop to fix a bit of the body rust and fit the EF9 front end...the hood will need to be cut down:)

    thanks for all the support!
  • JDMWago666JDMWago666 Senior Wagonist
Can't wait for the updates with everything you just listed.
  • Perhaps I'm confused, but I thought this thread would have a wagon with an CRV drivetrain in it?
    B20/5spd/RT4WD ... am I missing something?
  • JDMWago666JDMWago666 Senior Wagonist
No you're not missing anything. He has a RT wagon and a wagon with a Dual Cam AWD using the crv 5 speed tranny and drivetrain. One BA wagon. Too bad Shea sold it before I got to see it in person :(
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
lets see some pics of how u mounted that spoiler.
  • FakeJDMEF8FakeJDMEF8 Senior Wagonist
I finally got that red one ya got for me on there. It's pretty self-explanitory. Two holes on either end of the OEM wing must be drilled, and a hole for the wiring. I dig it:)

I have an EF9 SiR wing I was gonna put on the CRVwag, but picked up a carbon midwing, finally...
  • Super dedicated bro!! Amazing work! Is there a build thread for the gsr/crv AWD drive train /tranny?
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
Badass work man! Keep it going, we need moar!
  • jt223539jt223539 New Wagonist
Hey man, wagon is coming out really really good. I was wondering though, is there any documented pictures or build thread of when this beast was put together? I am really curious to see how the drivetrain was mounted, and just all together how it looks.

Keep up the good work, this wagon is going to be a beast when it is all said and done.
  • FakeJDMEF8FakeJDMEF8 Senior Wagonist
Shenrie did all the motor and drivetrain work. I can definately take pictures for you all. The rear axles are cut and spliced together; RT outters/crv inners. The propeller shaft has also been cut down to size, the Exhaust manifold is a DC sports upper and custom collector, and the rear Hasport trans mount has been modified. That's most of what it consists. I'm calling Shay today to hopefully talk some more. I'll see if he has a post/build up somewhere. If you google "1989 gsr wagon" you'll find a few links, and Shenrie was also on Honda-tech.com

the car is a beast. When I got it, it was rolling one steelies (which still have great tread, thanks matt!!) and had mad front camber. It was hard to keep the thing stable. Now with the PICs on, full Energy kit, ksport camber/toe, and skunk2 uppers, I'm thinking it will be able to handle it. With the b16a cams replaced for true GSR units, the power range is much more smooth and powerful. It's been too long since it's been driveable, but luckily I have two other hondas to keep me busy (crx sir clone/stock RT)...

The car really hasn't needed as much work as I first imagined. Really the only major thing I'll be needing, and that's more of a personal preference than safety/performance issue, is the rear subframe. It's a bit too rusty for me. Could probably just sandblast and paint, but if in going that far, I'd be better off just replacing it. No real rust beyond the quarters and drivers tailights housing...the motor just needed some loving and cleaning. It starts up perfect everytime! Can't wait to track the shitt outta it this summah!

currently awainting a new OEM alternator, 97 ITR booster and MC, Hondata gasket, and a few other maintainence items. Engine as well as body will be like new!

Thanks for everyones interest! I'll be fitting the midwing and cutting fogs today!

Any info or pictures you provide would be greatly appreciated. I love the wagon platform, and someday would like to make more power outside of a D-series and make it that much more unique. I hope that with any pictures or info that you provide will push me towards a more stable idea on how to do that.

    Thanks

    JT
  • Brake kit is sweet! Keep up the good work man!

So ive been working super diligently on this car tha past few weeks. its really coming along. Just need my 1" ITR booster/mc and Circuit Hero brace to arrive and then will have the engine bay done. that foto will have to wait:)

the car needs a few interior parts (havent decided on seats yet. thinking ill sell the Type S Seats and get some Recaro DC2's...but everyone has em....i cant decide.....) otherwise the car is near completion.

    Things that have been finished:

-Dynamat installed on the whole inside lower chassis. well, except the door skins and pillars...
-GSR cams reinstalled (had b16a cams when i bought it)
-OEM Honda AC Delete (and Ac hoses, etc removed)
-OEM injector o-rings and IM seals
    -Hondata IM Gasket
-Cleaned up the skunk2 IM with a wire brush and steel wool. was pretty weathered and needed a cleaning. new TB gasket, cleaned the TPS, and MAP, and reinstalled
-replaced (seems like every single one) most of bolts, nuts, screws throughout the WHOLE car with rust-free New Mexico units. free from my local yard:)
-EF9 front bumper support, bumper, radiator support and fenders all lined up. Now just need to fabricate my extra EF9 metal hood onto the front and im done. oh, also picked up a JDMSh!t lip. an EF9 for this wagon, and an EF8 for my CRX! Still dealing with having them send me a replacement as it was damaged when it arrived. After they claim it was "indestructable" Those dudes are shadyyyy:( but the lips are cool!
-minty set of front fenders found; Fenders cut for CTR sidemarkers:)
-rewired/shrink wrapped/soldered all connections from ECU to engine bay. Some just had crimps, some were bare or splitting, etc. just cleaaned it up a bit. took FOREVERRR
    -polished up the Hasport mounts
-used 4 extra bushings from my Energy kit to replace the 4 bushings (well, 2 per bolt, really) on the shifter plate, and shrink wrapped the shifter (was looking ratty, and looks awesome!)
-flipped the battery tray upside down and made a custom tray for the Odyssey 680
-Finally got the FUll Race trac bar to fit properly (after cutting and welding for the EF9 front end, needed reshimming to clear the support)
    -installed new rear diff bushings
-installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump
    -installed a new alternator
-picked up 15" BBS basketweaves for the CRX (wont clear the wagons Wilwood kit; no wayyy)
-picked up an AEm fuel rail and FPR
-picked up SIR front headlights, and rear fogs (another set)
-picked up an actual ITR valvecover, spark plug cover and oil cap

and probably a bunch more stuff. seems like i spend more time working on it then anything else...

    this week i plan tooo:

    install MC, booster, brace
install IM, gasket, rail and regulator
    bleed the brakes
install subaru roof rack and roof rudders
install ITR cover and whale penis
install wheels and get PIC's adjusted to a clearance i desire
get the GSR crank pulley shaved down to a single belt
trailer this thing to the bodywork dude and get it PAINTEDD

anyways, ill add more when i can...

    cheers
