Everyone just assumes I'm a guy, just cause - what's a girl doing with a car she cares deeply about? Not that there aren't any in the car scene, but it's quite rare I think.

Anyway - <3 you! Thanks for the compliment dude.

Will do. I've not done one before either, so I was a little apprehensive about that part, especially the wiring junk. Luckily, we've recruited another local EF junkie/professional tech. who is very familiar with it. I'll take lots o' pics.
  • thanks man, any help would be awesome.

    Well, here's a snag I didn't anticipate:

It turns out that 1988 automatic wagons did NOT have the hole pre-punched for a clutch cable. MY friend Hoss was over last night helping me to pull the engine. He had assured me that the hole was already there, because he recently converted his '90 wagon. Well...I looked at the '90 auto shell here in the yard and sure enough, there it is.

    741.jpg

    and here's lil'ghost's

    742.jpg

    Later...gotta go figger it out
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
As it turns out, it's not just the hole that's missing. There's also a bracket/tube on the inside. Here's the '90:

    775.jpg

drilled out the welds and used a body saw to remove the needed support

    776.jpg

    777.jpg

    Here's the '88, same shot

    778.jpg

Bored a 3/4" hole, and slotted the hole for the stud- the pedal bracket bolts here, will clamp the slotted area

    779.jpg

    Here it is bolted up

    780.jpg

On my swap, Revmaynard's, and Hoss's auto to dseries manual swap, we had to use the wagon clutch cable, so I made sure I had a wagon cable on hand. I can't tell you why just yet, but on this one we had to use a DA cable- wagon one was just too short :?

  • do you know if the 89 auto will have this same " hole issue " ???
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
I'm not sure, our model we pulled the bracket from was a 90. The best way to check is to look under the hood of the car or another auto of that year.
  • Should haul when your done .
  • DarrenDarren Wagonist
    wow, that's completely random.....

nobody would have expected Honda to do this.

I commend you for your professional solution for this very strange problem.

Hey, you're good. I just went through your thread and I can see the plug. I posted there asking if it was an '89, in fact.

Well, finished up at 10:30 with the ecu wiring-glad to have it out of the way

    43.jpg

    44.jpg

before that it was a big ol' crossmember notch.

    45.jpg

and of course the shifter installation

    46.jpg

    47.jpg

tomorrow i'll have to fab up something to close up the holes in the floor. It will be tight, don't worry...i hate halfass.

Right now the exhaust is ...well...halfass. Just a scrapped-together 'test pipe' to get it to the exhaust shop

    48.jpg

    annnnd the money shot

    49.jpg

i took another of my furlough days tomorrow(monday) and i'll try like hell to finish
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Does anybody know why that^^^happened with the images? Same thing happened last night with pics that are in the same album as the ones that DID work.
  • DarrenDarren Wagonist
most image hosts have multiple servers... if you just put them up, they might be pulled from a different host right now, than you uploaded them to...

It might take a few hours to fully propagate to all the servers.

I don't know if this is the problem with YOUR image hosting site, but if they pop up in a little while, it's probably what happened.

    (I'm a programmer :P)
  • DarrenDarren Wagonist
Glad to see i was correct and the pics came back.... Cause they are great pics!

I'm gonna be doing something very similar here pretty quick, except for the nonsense with the lack of a clutch cable hole :)

Looks good man, in for final pics
