That's a good idea- buy CRX Si full set. Thanks! I wonder how the DA ones differ, though?

Please do show me what you mean about fabricating braided lines myself. I just assumed they were all hydraulically (is that a word?) crimped.
  • rbwdrivenrbwdriven Senior Wagonist
    Trev,

There are shops around that make Hydraulic lines.

Might be able to either use the crx stainless lines then go to a flex line from there due to the extra 4"

Brakes are a ways in the future right now. I'm sure when I start down that road it'll become clear.

It does me a world of good to see this

    97.jpg

Finally able to start assembling the front suspension, albeit temporarily.

    98.jpg

Getting to this point is important, I needed to see if the coil would clear the frame apron

    99.jpg

and it does, baaaaarely. I'll actually gain some clearance as the suspension is loaded I think

    100.jpg

And on the subject of brake lines- look where the mounting tab for the line transition ended up

    101.jpg

and here at the rear, just a straight 4" drop

    102.jpg

today I'm going to work on finalizing that frame notch for the UCA, and rough out the other side

dude this thing is gonna be so bad ass.

    I hope so!

I decided to just make one big notch

    121.jpg

    122.jpg

the other benefit of this plate is that it adds some strength to the inside wall of the shock tower. I was a little concerned with the strength of what remained of the apron, though, so I added a gusset.
The shape of it kinda struck me as funny

    123.jpg

Laid in here at an angle, should be overkill AND too heavy. (my usual M.O.) :?

    124.jpg

but remember the engine mount will weld directly to this plate on the other side.

I didn't get to the driver's side, but I got the patterns ready!

Looks awesome bam!! keep it up!
  • Crazy fab work can't wait to see the outcome...
  • rbwdrivenrbwdriven Senior Wagonist
    Holy hell.

    totally cool.
  • First thing I check on HCW is this build. Keep it up man!

So now I have upper control arms on both sides! :D
That's a BIG step for me. I sure hope that the geometry is somewhere in the neighborhood of correct...

    156.jpg

This side (driver's) will be a little different. Partly because I learned some things on the other side, and partly because this side is just shaped differently. Also because I knew going in that it would be one big hole. On the first one I was groping along in the dark.

    157.jpg

These updates are pretty much in Real Time. Haha, get it? RealTime? :P
The stuff you see here was done tonight. I'm using the build thread to blow me through the doldrums...

It is becoming exciting again, though! I should be within about a week of seeing it standing on its own feet again.

    a Week!!! Yeaaahhh!!! Cant wait..

    Yes! more, more!
  • A lot of impressive fabrication already! Can't wait to see more.

Not a lot of progress tonight, just got that car-shaped stiffener added to the left side. Every little bit helps...

I'm torn about whether to go power steering or not.

    my opinion would b

  • ram assisted power steering with those big ol meats you're putting on there! Front and rear steer!
  • Keep the p/steer!
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
I probably will, it's just a big hassle and another week of fabwork. All that and I don't like the pump in my way.
  • Have you looked into electric power steering pumps?? like the mr2 pump stated earlier?
Here's a link to a guy who did it on his jeep

That's a neat idea, but still a bit complicated. If I do keep PS it'll be using the stock parts in some combination.
  • DRMORTYDRMORTY Council Member
Big tires & no power steering? Your keeping it! I decided for you.. LOL
  • rbwdrivenrbwdriven Senior Wagonist
    Here is my opinion:

    P.S - Yes

    - easier to turn bigger tires

    P.S. - No

    - More fab time with brackets
    - Robbing engine power
    - Less clutter in bay
    - Another thing that could break
    - Possible custom lines.
    - Put a little bit more air in tires.

    The No's outweigh the Yes's.

    But it is your arms.
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
A 205-50-15 is roughly a 23.5 inches on most tires. I don't see it being the tires that make it hard to turn since you probably won't air down to often, but all the extra front end weight may play a roll in how it steers... I'd consider it, but I'm sure it wouldn't be terrible if you didn't install PS.
  • DRMORTYDRMORTY Council Member
I think he is going for 30" tires
  • SiRgeSiRge Wagonist
Search up on NZHondas.com, there's a guy who put up a step by step guide to installing the MR2 pump in his race car. TBH, it doesnt look really complicated as that other wall of text described
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
Well, the OE stuff has the added advantage of me already owning a shitpile of parts. The reason it's on my mind at present is that the K-member needs to be welded in, and it is PS/ non-PS specific. I think I'll go ahead and use the PS member, it can be bushed down, but the manual one can't be bored out.

Custom lines will definitely be required, that's not too big a deal.
I'm not sure about which pump/pulley/bracket/belt combo will be required, but I ain't skeered.
...and I do have little girly arms!

It would just look so much cooler without it!

I'll probably keep the PS anyway- what if I had to put my beer down to steer??

    LOL, Exactly!

So I've been under the weather most of the week, didn't get anything at all done until today. I actually came home from work, sat down, and watched TV! (If you know me, that's a shocker)

I keep telling myself I don't care about cosmetics on this beast, but I couldn't help myself

    267.jpg

Those big ugly welds and irregular gaps were just too much for me, so I grabbed some bondo

    268.jpg

Also filled the gaps up here, where the front crossmember mounts

    269.jpg

still have to cut some plugs for here, but I want to keep the holes for the towhook
