84 wagon fwd

I got a 1984 civic 5 door wagon not 4wd with a really bad vacuum leak. My buddy is selling me a d16y8 for cheap I wanna throw it in my honda. What do I need to do to do this? I don't want anyone's opinion, tellin me just to fix the leak I want to put the d16 in.

You will need all of the things.

Engine, trans, wiring, ecu...probably a jumper harness. possibly mounts as i'm not entirely sure that it will just bolt in. I'm also not positive that the shift linkage will work either.

I've got an 87 fwd wagon and things just do not look the same under the hood. might just be the size that is deceiving me but yeah. There isn't a ton of info on the pre 88 wagon swaps on the site. You're best bet is probably to look through the builds and see who has a build going on one.

In fact you could probably just look up d series 3rd gen swaps because I would be willing to bet its the same deal for all 3rd gen fwd civics, wagon or no. An old friend of mine had a mini me in a gutted AF hatch that was stupid quick for what it was, tuned on e85 it was doing high twelves in the quarter.

Redpepperracing might be a good resource to check out. They have more third gen info.

    Go third gens!

Well he had already sold the trans and parted out the imjectors so instead of that (I had already traded him some sound sytem stuff) I didn't wanna have to take it back so he told me he had a TD04L turbo layin aound. Thinkin bout putting it on a 350 for my Camaro build, but I hear its not the best turbo for it.... how would my little 1.5 do with it?
  • How much was the stereo stuff worth to you? The td04's can be had for all day long for 50-100 dollars... And it would be WAY to small for the 350. Now the cvcc would be just about right! I was throwing around the idea of putting a vf-11 (td04's smaller cousin) on my EW til I realized how worn out the engine was.

essentially it was about 560 bucks in stereo stuff, got ripped off pretty good, the turbo doesn't even spin freely so its gotta be rebuilt... lesson learned, research it before youj buy it...

I'd like to know some more about this... a mini me is just a tec head on a non vtec motor right? will that work with my 1.5 EW-1?

That is what I was going ro do befor I found my new engine. D15 pistons, and a D15 or D16 head. From what I could research it should work, just need to play with pistons and head gaskets to get the compression and figure out what timing belt for whatever head you use.
