The tangerine speedo. update: 3" downpipe and 11" REAR discs

I picked up a creampuff 90 wagon. its a 2wd automatic (thats being converted), with A/C and cruise. the engine is gone, but that really doesn't matter. the car is dirty, but is the most structurally sound 20 year old car I've seen. no damage (other than sheet metal dents), and no rust anywhere. I took an ice pick and poked around at the usual honda rust spots, and didn't even find any scale. it was all smooth metal. my first box of parts showed up 6 hours before the car deal was finalized, and more stuff is on the way. this is gonna be a fun project...

    That was quick!
  • haha! I don't mess around. the car deal was secured last night while I was at work. when I got home this morning, the 5 speed change over and right side door mirror were sitting on the porch. just now, the mailman brought the holley 350 2 BBL carb. oh yeah, its getting a boost thru carb single cam turbo... ;)

Boosted b series should go into the wagon because no one expects the honda soccer mom car to be quick. fast hatch's are fairly common.
  • the boosted D ain't gonna be a slouch. the guy building it said 250 is gonna be easy. with a d15b crank and worked LS rods, I could get 300. we'll see. I'm not gonna count my chickens before they hatch.
  • the work has commenced...

    why a Carb?
  • Why not? Its simple and cheap. A friend has had a lot of success with boost thru carb set-ups. We laid out the plans at BWW on the way back from import alliance. He already has the engine harness down to 5 or 6 wires, plus the A/C harness that will be under the headlight next to the motorcycle battery. That's an added bonus, use a carb, get a partial wire tuck free. Lol

Also, the turbo set-up is getting changed. The HF manifold won't work with A/C, so he offered to build a top mount manifold. Who am I to argue with an offer like that?

This will be dope in it for daily updates!
  • haha, thanks, but it won't be daily updates. the car is at a friends shop an hour from me. with 2 jobs, a wife and 2 kids, we're probably gonna work on it once a week. the plan is to have it done in time for IA 2011, since IA 2010 was where the plan was conceived...

I was the one who talked to you off the corner of the nascar shops. I had no idea this project would kick off this fast. maybe I'll have something decent to park with yall next year.
  • we spent another night in the shop.

it got a bath at the coin wash:

    the motor was mocked up:

and THIS is why I had no problem spending $750 on a wagon without a motor...

  • looks nice and clean and sounds really interesting man! can't wait to see this come together
  • time for an update...

all the trim was pulled, in anticipation of the color change. yes, at this point, the color of choice is......tangerine.

the front crossmember is in place, awaiting the heim joints and additional bracing.

    701.jpg

the wires are pulled for the tuck.

    702.jpg

the dash is pulled for wire placement, and color change. the doo-doo brown interior needs to go too.

the engine thats getting built is disassembled and ready for internals.

Awesome build! Can't wait to see it after the paint goes on!
  • etherether Band Wagon
you're making good progress, a blow thru carb setup is something i havent seen in a honda before.
  • more work on the crossmember.

the heims are 3/4", so a 3/4" bolt was drilled out and tapped. that way, the 3/4" heim screwed onto the torsion rod, by way of the bolt/spacer.
    104.jpg

the stainless steel high mis-alignment spacers are 3/4" to 1/2" and 2" wide.

the tabs were cut and tacked in place.

more gussets and triangulation is planned, we just ran out of time for this night.

I picked up a set of shotpeened LS rods with ARP hardware this week.

keeping my eye on this build... good work so far....
  • well, the subaru that blew up in october is done, except for finalizing the tune. work on the wagon has resumed. the manifold and turbo have been bought, and I'm waiting for the pistons to be taken off backorder. this wait has been killing me!

dang. cant wait to see this
  • the manifold is in, the turbo and tubing are on the way. I'm about to be gone for a week, so I wont have an update for a couple weeks. hopefully the update will be worth it.

not yet. all the fab will be done, and the car will be running before any paint gets sprayed. once it runs and drives, it will be blown apart again for paint and interior. I dont want any nice shiny paint getting messed up while we monkey around with it.
  • the GT30 came in last week. its gonna be tight, but it clears everything.

the elbows for the manifold adapter and wastegate came in today. fab on that should get going next week.

are the lines gunna fit or are u making your own?
  • Everything is being relocated, so new lines will be made.

the bottom of the bumper beam was removed, and new metal welded in, with slots machined in to allow for fore/aft movement for placement. I forgot to take a pic with the bumper cover off. I'll get one tuesday.

the track type seatbelts have been removed, and the fixed slider type are going in. I went to a junk yard to get the seatbelts, associated trim pieces, and trans mounts, and happened up on another passengers side mirror and rear window bars. the man is very reasonable, and alot of the car is still there.
