i used to have a smooth shifting gear ripping rt4wd tranny but this summer i smacked it into the edge of a pothole causing me to have to replace the tranny , i found a used tranny installed it but have had problems shifting into second gear i get a gnarly grind unless i baby it .
long story short i been researching and researching and came to the conclusion
GM friction modifier or penzoil with friction modifier is the best according to online resources , also have heard many pros and cons about redline MTL and redline shock proof , So... since i can only use one i went with the Redline lightwieght shockproof.
after i purchased this i researched more and found a lot of negative feed back about the resulting damages to the ttranny causing it to make the synchros break down .
hoping thats not the case . here i go im gunna post some feed back after i run it today. any feedback from fellower hcwers?

but never found the answer i was looking for..... i grind trying to go n reverse :!:
I don't know if you were aware of this, but unless your car is at a complete stop reverse will nearly always grind. There are no synchros on reverse. The car (and the shafts inside the transmission) will need to be completely stopped for there to be no chance of grinding going into reverse. So come to a total stop woth the clutch pushed in, wait a second or so, and then select reverse. Otherwise, you are trying to mesh gears that are moving, and which have no synchros to help with that meshing.

Read section under."Oil".
two things i have found thats helps with this.. first, from complete stop i put shifter almost in 5th gear (not completely), just as it starts to enter 5th stop!... then back into reverse. that has stopped the grinding for me... every time... i assume it does same thing as putting into 2nd (stops gears from turning) and i am only running house brand full synthetic 10w40 in trans.
if that don't work, turn the radio up very loud... problem solved.
