The 90-91 'Wagon' seems to have extra bracing in the front footwells and I think the Wagovan was 88-89 off the top of my head? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, many electrical differences due to the DPFI vs. MPFI thing (Wagovan vs. RT4WD).
heres my emblem when i took it off. Mine is an 87.
i see the point... but really on in the wagovan/wagon/shuttle world is anyone really gonna give .02 what ya call it and confuse more than help...
i have my ej8 (98 civic coupe ex) but everyone refers to it as an ek.... same goes for guys with em1's (99-00 civic coupes) but well all call them ek coupes or ek sedans or ek hatches cause thats what everyone else knows....
i agree that a car should be called what it is but then when talking to someone else you will need to educate them on the differences and eventually just give up and call them all wagovans lol...
but i must say i appreciate the info being a noob to this scene now i know exactly whats up with the differents models and there literal names
A friend and I both Have RT's, but it really doesn't bother me. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, its a duck - same goes for the car. I can tell people its an RT4WD and they look at me like I'm speaking German. If I say wagovan they go "Oh, right on - they made those in 4wd?!" - Parts counter workers typically.
Either or, I know what the differences are, but it doesn't really bother me what they call it.
It's so annoying simply because it spreads misinformation.
I've always found the name "Wagovan" annoying.
So shoot me.
I'm not too fond of it either.. I needed some parts for my wagon just to go pick it up with a trailer from my brothers house. My buddy at work said "oh yea, those are called wagovans." So I tried ordering parts for a wagovan.. Learned my lesson pretty quick, and it cost me shipping $$.
hhmmm, i am a new honda wagovan/wagon owner. i posted in new user intro. i just got this 87.. the po told me it was a wagovan, and since i don't know anything about em, i just assumed it was. i also read thru this entire thread and still don't know how to tell them apart.
i could really care less if it's a wagon or wagovan, i just want to know so when standing at the parts counter, i actually know what to ask for.
i understand the ideal behind this thread and can definitely appreciate the love and RESPECT meant to come from it... but on the other hand if you only search for wagon instead of wagovan and/or shuttle then you will miss out on alot of parts for sale/deals from people who will call it what they will... all my friends call it a wagovan because they dont know any better as stated before... but it is in fact a rt4wd wagon...
Mann I'm with charb on thos. It bugs me wen people call mine a wagovan. Mines a 91 dx wagon. An I tell them its a dx.
Look take this for a example
A guy walking down the street in a cop uniform. An a lady runs up to him an says help me! That guy stole my purse. What's he guna say?? Ohh I'm not a cop I just have the uniform??

I'll try to break this down a little.
Basically "Wagovan" is a trim level. Ya know how Civic hatchbacks have Si, Dx, etc....? I'll compare the Civic hatch trim levels to wagon trim levels so you can get the basic idea.
More or less...
Top level: Civic Si or Civic Wagon RT4WD
Middle: Civic DX or Civic Wagon DX (no DX badge is present, the car just says honda civic)
Bottom: Civic Std (no badge) or Wagovan
Someone else already explained what options come on each model, etc. Should be early in this thread.
:edit: saw your thread, yours would obviously be the RT4WD. sometimes at parts stores it's listed just as Civic 4WD.

ty! Im not a soccor mom so i would die before driving a van. I love that mine is a civic wagon. Would not want to call mine a wagovan.. thats just my preferance. No van anything for me

agreed 100%. no minivan ever built is as unique as a civic wagon. plus, not many vans were offered with a manual transmission.
nissan axxess and mitsu expo LRV(the non LRV expo was a 4door with 3 rows of seats) is all i have to say... both are similar to the civic wagon but have minivan doors, both avil. with AWD and manual transmissions.... powered by ka24 and 4g64 respectably... neither is quiet as reliable as a civic but they are more unique, the axxess is way rarer then the honda and mitsubishi

Exactly! and unless is it a big truck.. im not driving automatic.. standard is just more fun to drive. And to me, those pics are a wagovan.. they look like a small minivan lol. i wouldnt drive that..

Ha! exactly.
Nice info on the Axxess and Expo. For some reason the idea of a KA24 with AWD sounds really cool to me....
well i don't think you guys got the wagon version down there. just the RVR and the older nimbus/chariot so i an see how you would see it as a minivan.... i prefer to just call them(expo, LRV, RVR, axxess and civic wagon) "tall wagons".... technically it's a MPV like subie forester, outback, mitsu outlander, outlander sport(aka ASX) and 4wd vans
wagon version:
but you guys got the RVR sports gear thing with the evo i-iii drivetrain. if that's a minivan it has to be the fastest production minivan
if the civic had van doors would you call it a minivan?
EDIT: i stand corrected...Australia got that generation nimbus(not sure about NZ). but you probably don't associate it with the RVR even though its just the SWB and LWB of the same vehicle

Most excellent. Just don't call it a Wagovan
But, I got the Tag "Wagovan" Because I like it.. and "Civic Wagon" didn't fit...
1989 real wagovan here
...1988 Civic Wagon RT4WD
heres my emblem when i took it off. Mine is an 87.
heres a back/side view.
Wagon/Wagovan = USDM/CDM

Heaps of them maybe, but not common at least in my neck of the woods. It's not the first label I've misused.
