AutoX Project 91 4WD

hey guys,

figured i'd share my first journey of a honda on here since there's alot to be learned and this place has ALOT of material to help me out.

before this i had/have my 05 Mazda3s Wagon.

but had a mishap with what i believe is a dropped valve, but it's such a pain and so expensive to work on right now, my friend and i thought it would be a good idea to grab a honda for a daily beater / auto-x weekend racecar (my friend being a honda fanatic owning a 09 Si and a 07 S2k CR himself). so he found a jewel on craigslist.

1991 Honda Civic Wagovan 4WD w/ 260k on the clock.

first thing i thought is that the possibilities are endless. and the fact that this thing is in really good shape.

so this thread will basically be my progress report / goodie show.

first thing we wanted to conquer was the timing belt and water pump and then just go town. but had an issue, it died and wouldn't start up. found that the NO 1 cylinder had ZERO compression.....great...

    711.jpg

    712.jpg

pistons seem to have ZERO damage, and this being a budget car, that's definitely a good thing!

    713.jpg

looks like we found the problem! couple of dropped valves on NO 1 cylinder!

luckily we have a friend who has a "few" honda parts at his shop. this weekend we'll be getting another a6 head to revive this thing.

and! since we have the thing half torn apart.

go ahead and ordering and installing a new DC header, new mishimoto radiator and hoses, new poly mount inserts and maybe some other things in the process.

Cool. My 91 autocross wagon should be on the road in the next couple weeks. It's a full Street Modified build. What class are you planning on running your wagon in?
  • WagonAttackWagonAttack New Wagonist
nice! idk how far i really want to go with it yet but probably the same class as the mazda which was just basic ST class. once the mazda is fixed i'll decide whether or not i'm gonna take it up to that point but it would be alot of fun to take it to the Full Street class.

    rear sway bar for sure!
  • WagonAttackWagonAttack New Wagonist
    yeah thats not joke! haha

have any of you guys used the c pillar bar? notice that much of a difference.

i've been looking at mostly progress suspension (springs / sways) but idk if i should waste my money on something like that.

any status on this progress report?
  • WagonAttackWagonAttack New Wagonist
yeah with work and everything catching up has been hard....

small update....but beware of the crappy iPhone pics since i don't have a real camera

finally got the motor dropped out thanks to a friend of mine....these old cars are sometimes unforgiving....

    852.jpg

    853.jpg

another amazing fact of this car....no rust on the subframe!!! makes me soo happy. it's just extremely dirty from all the dirt it's collected in it's almost 20 years of being driven...

so while the motor is out and everything is apart, it's time to really get down and clean.

    854.jpg

    855.jpg

then when it comes to that time (this weekend hopefully if everything is ready)
out with old, in with the new(ish)!

    856.jpg

    857.jpg

figured i'd take some pics of the awkward tranny. my first 4wd so i was curious....should be fun to transfer!

    j/k

    861.jpg

tranny fluid and rear dif fluid...honestly guys, this $70 of fluid is not a whole lot for the buck, but well worth the money.
    plus, Avery approves
    862.jpg

these toys i plan on putting on here in the next few days while the motor is out and the suspension is half assembled.

Skunk2 coilover sleeves. KYB Gr2's also, just not pictured.

    863.jpg

and i've had my eyes on these wheels for a while, but now i can finally have them! 05(ish?) Honda Fit factory 15's

    864.jpg

but until i get some 205/50's i'll refinish the factory whities and rock those for the next couple of months.

more progress will be in this week!

been a while. here's a few updated pictures. definitely had alot of fun in the snow in the past month. soon to come z6 head on my ZC bottom end (higher comp = higher hp) port & polish + 3 angle valve job, p28 ecu chipped by phearable.net, customized pacesetter 4-2-1 header. shooting for 145-150hp to the crank. not sure what to expect to the wheels but it should be pretty fun!

and a little short video of me having some fun in our back parking lot. not a whole lot of room to go crazy but still fun nonetheless. we don't get snow like this here in Oklahoma very often so i had to take advantage lol.

fit wheels look awesome on EFs (i have them on my hatch, same color as your wago)
  • WagonAttackWagonAttack New Wagonist
yah they're definitely a great find man! you don't see many people out there with them honestly!
  • They really dress up any wagon. I'd like to see what a set of the new 16" Fit rims look like on my car (I'm rolling on 195/60s on my 15" Fits right now).

I'd really love to see them wrapped in 27" Swamper TSLs on a lifted EF!
