Heater stopped blowing HELP before I get hypothermia

So I have a 91 wagon with the stock d15b2 and the 1 and 2 settings of the heater/vents never worked but now 1,2,3, and 4 on the center console dont work. I have no idea how to fix this I checked all my fusses and theyre all fine. It will still produce heat because I can feel it if I put my hand up on the vent i can feel the slightest, but very noticeable, bit of warm air coming out. Does anybody have any suggestions on what this could be and how I can fix it?
thanks zach

  • Check the blower resistor box...if it's not that it's probably the blower motor. All is located behind the dash, you can get to it by removing the glove box I believe

Thump the motor with the heel of your hand. If it comes on, replace it.

Usually, lack of intermediate speeds means resistor. No fan at all? Motor.

mine does that. the 1 and 2 fan speeds dont work, but the 3 and 4 does.

^^^^^That for sure is the resistor.....cheap and easy fix too.
  • Mine just started acting up yesterday...

I have to kick start it... I think there is a impact sensor in the heater box, and when you kick it the blower motor starts working... LOL

It looks like I'm going to have to add "blower motor resistor" to the thing to do list...

That's the motor going (gone) bad. If you don't get low speeds but you get the higher speeds, it's the resistor.

I just had the motor replaced in my CRX. As expensive as it was, I'm glad I had the shop do it. The book said 2.4 hours, it took 5! Once I got it running again, I found that the low speeds were gone (again). The resistor relies on the air-flow from the blower to cool it. Leave the switch on when the motor isn't working and you burn out the resistor. Lesson learned.
