Gandhi's '90 Eco Build
Gandhi
Band Wagon
Hello everyone, I'm new here. I'm going to be doing something a bit different and I hope you guys enjoy it. About a month ago I decided I'd part from the drifting world to build a daily driver that was reliable, spacious, and capable of at least 50mpg. At some point I became fixated on taking a CRX HF motor and dropping it into an EF hatch shell, but I discovered the wagovan and decided that building something a bit more spacious and a lot more unique was worth the extra couple hundred pounds of curb weight. I started looking for a cheap non-running wagovan shell to drop a d15b6 into, & I eventually found the perfect candidate on Craigslist.
It was perfect. It didn't run, the interior was nice, and there was no rust on the frame rails or in the engine bay. It wasn't without issues though. It had clearly been sitting in a field for a few years. A mouse and an ant colony both called this car home and the rear bumper brackets were rusted completely off. For $320 though who was I to complain? We sealed the deal, got AAA to tow it to the garage at my unsuspecting mother's house, and I started drawing up a plan.
The basic plan:
- Swap in a CRX HF D15b6 engine with a complete rebuild aimed at fuel economy
- Strip the entire car down to bare bones to de-rust the chassis & hit it with fresh paint
- Replace every single consumable part with something that exceeds OE performance & function
- Relocate mouse
- Rear disc conversion
- Throw as much of my own style and personality into this thing as I can along the way.
I'll keep you guys updated with my plan and progress along the way.
