when you first turn the key to the "on" position, you should hear the fuel pump prime, and then a clicking noise when the check engine light turns off. if you do not hear it prime, and there is no clicking noise when the light goes off, it may be simply the Main Relay that went out.

i would also check for SPARK. these cars are notorious for faulty distributors. if you arent getting spark, pop off the distributor cap and take a look inside to see that the rotor is still where it should be. sometimes the rotor screw comes loose and falls out. if its all intact you may have a faulty distributor.

    easy stuff first!

to answer your last questions, any 4th gen Civic fuel pump will work. probably even some Integra ones, etc..

P.S. let me know what you find out about the fuel pump priming, and whether you are getting spark or not! ;)

it does the click when I turn it on how do you check tge spark

I check spark by pulling out one if the plug wires, sticking a screw driver into it and laying it across a metal area. Have a friend crank the engine and you watch to see if any sparks bounce off the screw driver. Or instead if a screw driver you can use a spare spark plug ir buy a spark plug for this.

There is your problem. Get a new cap and rotor.

Did you set it right? You should try to put it in the middle. You are setting the ignition timing by moving the dizzy back and forth. Check for any marks

you bought a whole new distributor?
  • ncarr 249$ncarr 249$ Band Wagon
Yeah because all the wires were corroded and the new cap and rotor didnt do it

I got it running finally!! my noob self put the rotor on backwards so I took the distributor off and spun it half way and it startsd right up... the part that connects to the camshaft was on right but I had to take it off and put it in the other way... hard to explain but im glad its done
  • If you have it connected to the camshaft backwards it will fail fairly quickly. I would put the rotor in the right position.
