Newbie having trouble removing transmission

Recently picked up a 89 rt4 wheel drive wagon and found there was a rod knock so started pulling the engine and trans last night. Having trouble getting the trans to drop out, have all the bolts ( that i can see ) removed, Its dropping very low but wont seem to slide of the engine fully. Any advice would be awesome. Thankyou!

    A) Have you remove the drive shafts? lol
    B) The rear centre shaft?
    C) If you've done above, probably need to give it a jiggle or get a pry bar between the 2 on both sides and force it out slowly, often the input shaft gets a little stuck

    A) Yes have removed both axles and half shaft
    B) Yes I have also deiconnected the rear drive shaft
    C) ive litterally had my buddy jumping up and down on it while ive been pulling from the pass side and it will drop super low and almost completly discconect from the engine but still wont budge >:( but i

Dont jump on it! Could bend the input shaft!

We had thought about that, but don't really care about the shaft since im swapping in a d15b7 and rebuilding the trans at my work. thanks for the concern though! hah

Have you removed the dust cover behind the flywheel?

Before you go through the trouble of building the D15, you should make sure the block will accommodate the jack-shaft.

There is bracket that attaches the exhaust manifold to the transmission. Did you unbolt that?

Every bolt i could find underneath has been unbolted, the dustplate underneath is unbolted The engine and trans have a good two inches of seperation and it still wont seem to slide off. the exhuast manifold is unbolted, I did not see any brackets on the trans but will look again. i tried prying on it today and stil nothing. very frustrating.

the jackshaft? you mean like halfshaft? my buddy has a the spare d15b7 sitting in his garage, from the research i have done as long as i swap the distributor, intake mani, and sensors i should be fine. read that the d15 will bolt up to the trani fine

thanks for all the help guys, i appreacite it

Have someone with fresh eyes look at it. You're missing something cuz I've taken mine off numerous times and each time it just fell apart.

Is the tranny hitting against something?I assume the 3 mounts are removed. Is the tranny in the air or on the ground? You may have the tranny cocked to one side causing it to bind on the clutch. If it's on the ground try putting a block under the engine oil pan & jacking it up to unload the tranny.

Yes the half shaft, jack shaft, intermediate shaft, mid-axle...whatever you want call it. A standard long axle from a FWD car will not clear the housing for the rearward driveshaft.

The car is up on jack stands ,so you could say its on the ground. Ill try jacking up the engine and see if that works, thank you.

I read that the d15 should have the holes for the half shaft to bolt up, read that some of them don't have the holes tapped but I could probably tap them myself if it came down to it. Is this true? I plan on using everything from the d16 other then the block and head.

So after slighty pulling in the trani to unbind the clutch, while getting the jack underneath the engine and it slipped right off. thank you guys for all the info and advaice :)
incase anyone is curious about the d15b7 swap after some research i found that th zc IS shaft and RT4 IS shaft is the same and found a company named hush performance that makes zc IS shaft Adapter brackets for any d15, so i went ahead and ordered one so the swap becomes as easy as possible.

i'll be making a build thread soon
