What type of glue to glue side moldings?

Took off side moldings and pretty hard to put them back on with the clips. Been using seal all but it sucks and doesn't hold up for long. It weakens and ends up coming loose. Any reccomened glues used before? Thank you.

Clips shouldn't be hard to put on.

Without a doubt, those are going to be your best bet for a lot of reasons. I say that having been in your position, and trying tape and other adhesives in the past.

    Clips simply work best.

I know I'm gonna have a time trying to get them on and off as well... I read the write up on how to remove them and seems pretty hard lol...

I was being dumb and most of my clips broke. Im gonna try some DIY stuff because it doesnt sit flush with my doors with the glue that i use.

DON'T TAKE THEM OFF! IMO. Its hella hard to take them off and the clips might break. But I mean if you have to then do it. But IMO i regret it. Bothers me that my moldinds dont sit flush with my doors.

I did a dumb move by ripping mine off when I got frustrated but try using clear silicone make sure it's clean before applying works like a charm have to duct tape it for it to stay
  • loctite double sided tape- holds up strong 100lbs vs 3m tape 5lbs- the 3m goes to $hit fast . But like everyone said clips are the best.
    Good luck!
  • Get some windshield glue. Used it to put the rear side of my motorcycle headlight back together. Hard as a rock, still holding tight. Was also used to glue the front spoiler on my AE86 years ago. Was still holding strong years later and had to use a razor knife to cut through it.

    You guys are killing me...

bam even posted about how easy they are to pop off. Not to mention you can get them easily at the junk yard for almost nothing.

I guess if you wanna be ghetto, use some glue...

    They always break.

And to be completely 100% honest, those are taped on my car LOL
  • I bought a cheap body moulding tools set from Harbor Freights and they work great. Super easy and convenient.

Just don't rush through the process. I replaced the moulding on the driver door this weekend and took 5 minutes litereally.

Get replacement clips if you can.

im not trying to be ghetto! Lol
  • If it works and looks stock, and is easier to get than these clips, how is it ghetto? I can't get the clips here in Germany, and trust me when I say there aren't any EF's laying around the junkyard, or very many hondas. So I will use what is available as long as it works and looks good. If it is good enough to hold the front spoiler on my AE86 for the past decade, easier to aquire than clips, then what is wrong with using something else other than clips readily available to some and not others?

Taking them off the right way of course is always the best way, but that doesn't always happen and with parts as old as ours even taking them off the right way doesn't always result in them not breaking. Some alternatives will look ghetto, others may not.
  • Still need to iinstall mine. Im gonna use that windshield glue
  • lmk if you are already using the windshield glue, otherwise i can
call around junkyards to see if they got anything wagonwise

    It's still ghetto.

People need to learn patience! Take their goddamn time! Bam did a write up for crying out loud. It's not hard at all. Our culture of 'now-now-now' needs to die...

And J, if you want clips, message me and I'll get you some asap!

In all honesty, I'm glad so many people are building ghetto ass cars.... makes mine look that much better lol

Charb you my good sir are Hilarious........ I found the easiest way to get the clips off while the trim is still attached, is to take a curved and straight pick set. Use the 90* pick from the top to push down on the clip lock & gently pull out the molding until the top of the clip comes out slightly. then while holding the top out use the same pick from the bottom to release the bottom locker when you release it the whole piece should pull away. do this for each clip starting from one end of the trim piece
