Z6 Swap Engine Surges While Driving at all Speeds (Checked Engine Code) Need HELP!

SO after completing a z6 swap in my 91 I have been having this issue since it was completed.
Its been sitting for over a month because I have been to busy to figure things out and now I am back trying to fix it again and pulled the code by grounding out D4 pin service wire on the conversion harness and seams to be blinking 1 long blink every 5 seconds or so.

Did I do this correctly?
Read somewhere I might need to ground it out on another wire from the harness?

So I am assuming this is code 10?
IAT sensor

Does this seam like something that could be causing this problem?

Now the question is should I pull it out and clean it to see if that fixes it or should I trace my wires and make sure they are the way they are suppose to be?

Any help appreciated!!

  • No one has any help on the ecu jump I did to pull the code?
    Ground out D4?
  • Well I got the code to go away but it is still doing the same thing.

No codes and will rev to 3k then nothing it just lets itself idle back down to 1 before I can give it gas again.

If I rev it past 3K it will stop and let it self rev back down.
  • i know a bad computer could put it in limp mode, where it would seem like it has a rev limiter at about 3000 rpm. but i havent really heard of the symptoms you are describing.

when you give it gas, when it goes from 3000 rpm to idle, it doesnt do anything?
  • are the tps and map sensor connectors switched around?
  • When it hits 3 it sounds like it stops getting fuel the gas pedal does nothing and it will just rev down.
I will take a video and post it up this weekend.

I am pretty sure no sensors connections are switched.
If they were wouldn't it be throwing a code.....?
  • Sounds like the ecu is in limp mode to me. Do you have another known good ecu to try? Maybe a friend? If its not the ecu it has to be the conversion wiring.
  • Jeff,

Pull the harness and re-check the connections that you did. Just let me know when you want to check the jumper and the computer with mine. Let me know.

Update problem solved it ended up being a the TPS sensor plug.
The sensor was fine but the plastic connector wasn't locking/connecting correctly.
I swapped it out for a new 1 and worked like a charm.
