  • This is the kind of motivation I'm looking for!!! SWEET....
  • Finally back from vacation, and had a couple presents waiting for me at home that were shipped in while I was away.

I really didn't like the old Boss hub that I bought for my Nardi so I just went ahead and bought a real set up, and NRG short hub, NRG quick release and NRG lock. Got all three brand new for $260 from nwcarpart.com. You can see how much bigger the ugly ass Boss hub is in comparison to the NRG short hub.

Pretty straight forward install when you don't have to deal with an airbag or any electronics other than the horn, and all I had to do for that was plug in a few wires, and connect these two with a little piece of metal twist tie and then wrap in electrical tape.

    275.jpg

Used the 19mm end of my cross lug wrench to tighten down the short hub.

    276.jpg

From there I attached the quick release base plate.

    277.jpg

Attached the Nardi to the quick release and popped the horn button into the center using the horn retaining ring.

    BOOM. Pimp shit activated!!

    279.jpg

Here's a side view so you can get an idea of where the steering wheels sits now. Pulls it towards you by an inch or two, which I like.

Pic of the lock on. Should be pretty handy if I have to leave my car parked in a place I'm not too comfortable with.

I had been searching for a nice wood grain shift knob for months, and finally found a sweet old school Honda one. Even has a cool little H emblem in gold under the finish. I love it, and the best thing is I got it for only $20!

Holy $h!t that is the sickest knob ive seen! Do tell where the hell you found that cuz this brotha from anotha motha needs one. Talk about grippin grain...now with BOTH HANDS!
  • I wish I knew what year/model this came off from, but I have no idea! I found it on eBay and all it said was that it was an old school OEM shift knob that was imported from China and that they'd never seen one like it before. I guess I got lucky. I am lovin it for sure! Need to work on a couple other wooden accents for the wagon, I just picked up a thumb drive that is in a wooden casing that plugs into my dash to import tunes to my deck and it adds another nice little touch of grain. Geah!
  • when you ordered the nrg setup from the site what was the number of the short hub you picked? wagon is coming along nicely
  • I just asked for one for an 88-91 Civic in the notations and they sent me out the right one.
  • If you went to all that effort (and cost) of getting that fancy hub and everything why couldnt you fork out the couple $$ for the correct terminal for the horn wiring? Twisting a bit of wire and wrapping it in tape is dodgy as.

Looks awesome though and love the Accord
  • Yeah I guess you're right, I should have done a better job. I had no idea what I was doing really and have no experience with that type of stuff so I just did what came to mind first. Looking back on it, I see I should have probably done something different/more permanent. I'll look for a terminal like you mentioned, or would you solder it be ok? I'll probably take it apart and do it correctly soon. Thanks for setting me straight.

Look for "quick disconnects." There's a size to fit your tabs and you can crimp it on with pliers. While I would not have done it like you did, I certainly wouldn't solder it because there's no need. It's just your horn. As long as its not going to honk all night and run your battery down you're good. This isn't a data connection or electronic signal path to your ECU or something like that.

I guess there might be some fire risk since what you'd have there in the worse case would be a short circuit but the wiring for the horn button is pretty well isolated. A "closed" circuit in that area generally will just make the horn blow.
  • Just go to a auto electrical place and look for speaker terminals. That will be the same size as a positive speaker terminal, negative terminal is smaller.
You will need to crimp or solder it onto wire from the horn button

Just spent an hour going through your thread mate. Bloody loving the work. Well done!
  • Love this build. Wood grain in a wagon is just perfect. You can fit a wood grain miata e brake handle, I have one on mine with a matching shift knob. Will compliment your badass steering wheel and shift knob.

Does fit right in? Or is there any modification to be done?

amazing build man, absolutely love the hub/wheel/horn button and shift knob!

direct fit on the shift knob. The ebrake handle needs a little bit of tape to make it a snug fit.

This is good to know. Will research the styles avail, as a wood grain ebrake handle was next on my lathe list :encouragement:
