my camera is officially broken. I got all the valves, springs, retainers put back in today after a valve lap as well as all the rockers. The guy at the machine shop said the bottom end should be ready at the end of next monday. Cant wait. The head is all ready to be bolted on. I dont know what the heck to do about pics. I'll see if I can borrow someone camera for a day. lol
Whut up mang!? Hey, you know you gotta get a wagon now that your on HCW. lol I didnt even know you can subscribe to a thread. Anyone else know??? Well, yea I'm gonna get the block back from the machine shop monday after school, so I'm going to be putting the motor together next week. I got my camera to work btw. Its just the cable thats messed up so I have to use my laptop to upload pics. Here is the clutch:

I've heard some stuff about people having issues with the competition clutch, but I guess it all depends on the flywheel you have and more importantly, how you drive it. Everyone that I have head of having problems with it slipping were running lightweight flywheels, and I asked the guy at Competition clutch what kind of flywheel they run and he said stock flywheels are what they use on all their 450+hp turbo cars. So I'm just going to get a resurfaced one and see how she holds up.
college or high school? I'm a senior in high school. I honestly dont know how I have the money to build this either. I am getting real low on money though. I just might be able to get it boosted and then slowly do things to the outside. lol
yea, I dont think theres many other high school students doing builds like this. lol Well I think my motor should be put together my the end of the week! I cant wait. I'm not using any of that plastigage like I usually do. I'm going to measure everything with mics this time.
It's a lightweight one lol. The clutch squeals really bad if i let it slip too much. and the pedal got softer on me after like 1000 miles and its not as grabby as it used to be. Im gonna get an ACT clutch when i get the money. and my bov is leaking too...damn ebay junk
yea, dont go ebay with stuff like that, especially wastegates. you should get a stock resurfaced flywheel. thats why your clutch went out mang........: :?
yea, they recommend stock flywheel with all their clutches. Dude said they never have any probs. Any you drive like ya stole the damn thing. lol. J/k j/k
I can't see how a lightweight flywheel would cause a clutch to fail. If I remember correctly, the problems they were having with the stage 4 was with the splines on the disc stripping. I too spoke to a spokesperson and later to the president of CC at the Spocom show in Long Beach this past year. I was also interested in the CC stage 4 for my LS/VTEC swap since my current clutch feels like it's on it's way out. I asked specifically about the stage 4 and about the issues they were having. At first the spokeperson denied any issues and introduced me to the president of the company. He said they have not been notified of any problems. Then after talking a little while longer he said they did have some issues with the discs but said their supplier provided them with faulty center sections(splines). He said something about the material not being as strong as it was supposed to be, but they have since corrected the problem. The thing that gets me is that CC offers a lightweight flywheel and sells it complete as a kit with the stage 4 clutch! Anyway hopefully it works out for you and you can let us know how it performs in your car.
ok, sorry about that misunderstanding. I actually bought a stage 3 with a lightweight flywheel from CC and never had any issues out of it. When I said lightweight flywheels I was referring to any other brand flywheel other then cc. Every review that I have read on all the Honda forums have said that their clutch started slipping and stuff and they some other brand flywheel. I just don't think that a clutch is something that should be mix matched. If you get a competition clutch and want a lightweight flywheel, then get it from Competition. But with the turbo motors you want as much torque as you can get, so I'm guessing thats why CC always run stock flywheels on their turbo motors.

good stuff, so true.
and yep stock flywheel for the most low end power (tq), if you get lightened flywheel on turbo'd car that will wrap out fast in high rpm's already, why make it wrap out even faster and just spin more? Plus we all know honda motors for the most part are torqueless.
so I finally got pics of the block, freshly bored and honed at Neil's cylinder heads. They do a pretty good job up there. anyways, I got all my ring gaps measured and filed down to spec. Took like an hour. ..... but heres pics of the head and the block. all cleaned up and everything. I'm actually in the process of painting the block right now........ enjoy
OK, so I finally got the locks in today. Got the bottom end put together pretty much, as well as the head on. I spent lots of times checking clearances and enplay and all that good stuff. Thats what most of my day consisted of. lol Anyways, here is a bunch of random pics from today.
so If you didnt read on tennspeed, I have to take the head back off because at least one of my rods is in the wrong way. I didnt know this when I put it together, but the notches on the rod journals have to be pointing toward the exhaust side of the motor. Do you guys think that I can reuse the headgasket I already torqued down, because the headgasket I bought was about a hundred dollars and I dont know what to do. I dont want to run into problems later.
I'm almost 100% positive you have to take the head off to take the pistons and rods out. Thats how it is on all other honda motors I've worked on anyway.

on the psi. Good luck.

ahh i c it now. I must have missed the last two pics lol
lookin so fresh n so bling bling
you could probably just get away with taking the rods / pistons out the bottom...
the engine building gurus can feel free to correct me if i'm wrong...
either way, nice build
