450hp civic wagon build thread

Names David, new to HCW, working on a 90 civic wagon ls-vtec turbo. Got some pictures of the wagon and the parts I have accumulated over the past month.

Got the old b16 motor pulled out of the wagon a couple days ago. As of right now, I'm waitin on Bisimoto spec arias pistons and rods. (Thanks Justin)They should be here friday. After I get those, I'm bringing the block and head up to the machine shop to have everything done. While I've been waiting, I think I'm going to paint the engine bay and fix the wire tuck. Whoever did the tuck didnt know what the hell he was doing, so I have to fix his mistakes. I'll keep you guys updated. :D

I'm looking to make around 450 to the wheels with this setup, so we'll see how much it makes when I'm done.
Let me know of anything that I will need. I'm sure I forgot some stuff. I'm not woried about the outside right now, i want it to be a total sleeper. Prolly paint the front mount black. any advice welcome :D

Nice setup, how much boost do you plan on running?

Do you plan on repainting this?
  • boosted white wagons for the win! 450hp is a low goal though i would think....especially with that block pistons and built head. you should easily be able to boost 25lbs ish reliably. im shooting for 400 on my sohc d series on a stock block. good luck with build!

what radiator you planning on using? i love that manifold but it puts the wastegate in a bad place. afi makes some good stuff!
  • yea, I know I can make tons more with the motor, but I want to have a fairly drivable daily that will eat up some american muscle for breakfast  I really dont know how many pounds it will take to get to my goal, so i guess I'll find out when we strap it down on the dyno.

Dont know which radiater I'm gonna get, probably just an ebay half size or something. Yea, the wastegate is in a weird spot, but I'll make it fit. :D

I do plan on painting it eventually, but as of right now I'm just gonna leave it be till I get it tuned and everything. I am in the process of painting the engine bay as we speak. Its a matte nickel color. I'm going to start putting the motor together next week so I'm trying to get everything ready so i can just drop that mug in! Heres some pics.
  • pictures kinda suck, but I'll have the rest of the bay painted tomorrow, so I'll try and upload some better ones tomorrow.

  • Hey,

Thanks for the idea for masking the engine bay. I was all prepared to tape everything off. Now I know it'll be faster to do the tin foil mask.
  • yesir, shaves so much time!

So I changed my mind on the bay color. I ended up painting it anodized bronze. I think it looks pretty good. Also got the engine harness almost done. Should be done with that soon. heres some more pics. Oh and got the pistons and rods from bisi today. I'll post pics up in a few!\

the engine bay doesnt look the same as it does in the pictures. It looks much better in person. Looks sort of brown in the pictures.

So baller!!! Let me get some money. 8)
  • haha...very funny. I'm running out of money. Trying to sell a ton of crap on ebay. :D Cant wait till monday so I can get this block machined and ready to go!
  • Looks like an awesome build and you seem to be off to a great start. I was planning a very similar build in the future with my wagon
but the poor economy has forced me to put it on hold. I am totally subscribed to your build thread. Hopefully I can learn a few things from your project that may help me later for mine. Good luck and keep those updates coming!
  • Those headers look sweet! Keep up the posts and make sure you put some pics up of the finished wagon!
  • I'll be sure to post some pics when its all done. :D Doing some more work today, keep you guys updated for sure!
  • baller...status wagon....cant wait to see the finished product. :D

I'll be sure to post some pics when its all done. :D

    Wewt!
  • So, I got a lot accomplished yesterday. I got my crossmember painted semigloss black, I got all the wiring done except for the passenger side headlight wiring. Everything inside the car is done wiring wise. I tucked my fuse box behind the middle console. (forgot to take pics of that) But, Got my engine harness done and routed through the hole in the fire wall which was a royal pain in the ass. Anyways, got some more pics up. Oh, and I'm bringing the motor to the machine shop tomorrow!!! Cant wait! .......I'll be sure to post pics of the block and head after I get it back. :

    Engine bay looks good!
  • Thanks man, it looks better in person though. lol So I brought my block and rotating assembly to the machine shop. They are cleaning it, boring and honing, and balancing the whole rotating assembly. Cant wait to get it back. I decided to just lap the valves at the shop and clean up the ports a bit, and put the s2 springs and retainers in myself. They were gonna charge me 375 to do a 3 angle, put the springs and retainers on, and resurface the head! I was like hells no! The guy that I bought it from did a valve job recently anyways, so I think a valve lap will do the job. I'll keep you guys updated, Thanks, david

    Looking good
  • so just wanted to update. Still waiting for the bottom end to get finished up at the machine shop. I took the head apart. Oh man, I forgot to take pictures of this, but I made the most baller status b series spring compressor ever! I will take some pics sometime this week. It works like a champ. :D But I got everything taken apart, did some port work on the exhaust side. Still have to smooth the ports out a little. They are pretty rough. Probably gonna start putting stuff back together tomorrow. But I wont have my camera till wednesday, so I'll be sure to take some pics.
