sub box help, new pics

ok so i just picked up a alpine type r 15" sub, and i was looking up sub box size requirements and it says a non ported box has to be 1.75 cu feet, and a ported box has to be 2.90 cu feet, so i droped out of high school in the 11th grade and i need help converting both of thoose into a box plan thats in inches, i have no idea how to do that but i know that the 1.75 cu feet and the 1.90 cu feet are mesurements of voulume so im assuming that thoose are the inside mesurements not the out side diamentions any help would be great and yea i know bad spelling, thanks- pat

    base x width x height = volume

okay that may be hard to follow.... look here http://grapevine.abe.msstate.edu/~fto/t ... l/box.html

Just make sure you use inches or feet, not both. And you can put your result in and leave your depth blank.
  • ok cool ill try that thanks
  • Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 1.3 cu/ft to 2.5 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Alpine is 1.75 cu/ft.

Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 1.5 cu/ft to 3.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Alpine is 2.9 cu/ft. A slot port with the following dimensions should be used with the 2.9 cu/ft enclosure: W=15", H=1.5", L=27". If you cannot use a slot port in your enclosure, you will need a port tube with the following dimensions: Diameter=3", Length=8.5".

So you like your bass eh? I'm going with 2 12" in a sparetire well enclosure.. 2 amps and 16band eq.. gonna build it tomorrow.. I've been driving mine to long without a system..
  • the sub is a alpine type r 15inch 2000 watts, going to be pushing it with a alpine cap and a kenwood 1000 watts amp, i had two type r 12 inch in my coupe but sold it so yea i love my bass :) makes my brain feal good lol, yup ill get pixs up, it would be cool to mold a fiber box into the wagon but i dont have that talent :-P, the box will prlly just be a square box unless someone has box planes the want to share :-), thanks 4 all the help all ready guys :-)

  • that fiber/mdf box is sweet, and a great idea, but i have a 15' sub and idk where i would mold the box to so its out of the way and doesnt look wack, mabey in the spare tire hole?! Depends on how long my sub is, still waiting for mr.ups to bring it

Why a 15? are you going for the hella low end? Are you getting it just cause its a 15?
  • Well mainly because ive never had a 15, but the deeper the bass the beter, and i might hook up a lil amp to my 6.5 door speaker's so i still can hear the music...

With a 15" it goes deep.. but it will project the bass outwards more than in the vehicle, if you want to be heard blocks away, the 15" is the way to go.. if it's personal thump you want, 12" or 10" are better.. back when I did SPL I ran 4 12" solobarics in ported enclosures.. with Kicker ZR1000's

I'm running 90watts rms to my door speakers.. I'm prob gonna go with a set of components in the kickpanels, and run a 6.5 midbass in the door to bring the front stage up more :)

Im a fan of 10's, a 12 ever once in a great while. If you what hard hitting thump you could always go with a 8.
  • haha, yea idk what size amp to hook up to my door speakers, they are pioniers 300 watt, i should use a four channel amp right?
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
If you have 4 speakers use a 4 channel. if you have two use a two.
  • roger that, thanks guys ill get pics up when i can get on a computer
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
? are you posting from a phone or something?
  • door speakers, they are pioniers 300
    composite or component?
i installed rear tweeters, against the headliner

    ..
  • yup ive been on my cell ever scince i posted my car pictures, i think they are componets not sure ill look, when i try to upload a picture from my phone it shuts off :-X
  • I ran a 4 channel for the front components and the rear speakers, and a separate smaller one for the sub. I wouldn't have used the 4 channel but I am running it all through a PC for surround sound.

Also the Polk Audio Sub came with a nice diagram for the box plans (I of course didn't follow it :D )

Nothing professional but it works

  • nice, i need to get a capacitor for my system 2 :-) anyone selling one?
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
HOLY SH*T!!!! you have got to send me more pics of that set up.

Yes a cap is a must. nothing like having your alternator die on you in the middle of where ever.
  • Sweet got my box today, it needs carpet, my sub will be here tomarrow, will get pics as soon as posible
  • ok so i got the sub today, its huge! Lol, but i was testing it out and it sounded sweet but, i had it wired up for 8ohms at the sub and i am planing on wireing it up for 2ohms but ive herd you need a special amp for that? If so anyone have a sugestion on a amp? Or should i just leave it at 4ohms like it was from the factory and not worie about it? Im not even that sure on what the difference is, any help would be great :-)
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
I run all my subs at 2. As far as I know most amps are 2ohm stable. I know you need a special amp for 1 ohm.
