Hey everyone, I know I love looking at build threads so I thought I'd share my first build thread.
It is far from special or unique but I love it. I have never worked on my own cars before, so far I am flying solo on this one. I have learned a lot and had more fun with less money than any other car I've had. I have always driven a lowered honda of some kind.
Main focus of this car/build is not get stolen!! I have been jacked before and it ruined my life. I chose the wagon cuz I always wanted one and I thought I might fly under the radar.

I've got a link to a website about how to protect your Honda (specifically) from theft. It's on my work laptop though, I'll post it next week.
thanks man. for now I just use an auto-lock and a few other little tricks. I'd like a paging alarm but I dunno.
removed weather stripping under windows. The gunk that had accumulated in there was crazy. I chiseled it out with a flathead! After cleaning, the windows looked much better too because I don't think the bottom of the glass had ever been cleaned. Had to scrape it with a razor!
I used duplicolor trim paint to paint the weather stripping. It looks good so far, not too shiny. It seems really sturdy too. Already wiped some bird doo-doo off!

Cool thanks man. I have to move in a few weeks into an apartment and it will be parked on the street.
I have never not had a garage up till now, which I only have a carport. Now my wagon will be treated like a commoner hopefully only for a few months though.

My first motor swap, I was so happy when I got it out

Heres a decent after one. Many bottles of totally awesome cleaner sacrificed their lives for this engine bay
The seam sealer in the bay and in the cabin is actually stained brownish from the weird dirt in this car. I dunno if it was in the midwest or what. It is caked on unlike any type of dirt/mud we have here in the north west.
I have been working on the interior, final goal is just to get a cleaner and maybe updated look to it. For now I am taking it all out and restoring/cleaning everything and dyeing the blue parts black. I have gathered some good black interior pieces from the junkyard from a EF sedan and a few gray pieces from a wagon.
I have no idea what the previous owners did to this car. It looks like they left the doors and windows open in a dust storm.
mainly used a shop vac and scraped the dirt off with a hard bristle brush.
for the sound deadening and some other areas i just used hot soapy water and degreaser and scrubbed with steel wool and shop vac'ed up the dirty muddy water
hard to tell in some of the after pics they didn't turn out so well but it looks like a different car
I spaced out and only took photos before I was done in the rear
The carpet in this car was just ridiculous. I decided to dye it black because it was just a lost cause and I didn't care if it didn't turn out.
When I pulled it
There weren't too many spot stains but it became several shades lighter blue by the time I was done with it
Over a week period I:
-pressure washed for an hour
-soaked two days in detergent and degreaser
-pressure washed a second time for an hour
-soaked 3 days in solution again
-pressure washed a third time
After the second pressure washing dirt would still start to come out after about 20 minutes of spraying. After the third the water stayed running clear.
It looks much better than this in person. Lighting is all bad.
I used VHT black dye on the carpet. I tried the rustoleum but it didn't look as good.
This fuel line in the interior is pulled out of place and the plastic cover is broken. I dunno what could have caused this. Any ideas?
On the roof skin, the last part has come a little loose. Probably from previous owners overloading the roof rack. The roof has a dip in it. There seems to be a tiny bit of surface rust on it. Has me a little worried...
i think this will turn out nice.
When we return, I am moving into her apt and will no longer have a place to work on the wagon
As of now almost everything is dyed black and ready to be reinstalled.
To-Do still:
-door panels: I have been hesitating on dyeing because they see so much wear. I bought new fabric for the door inserts.
-wrap headliner: I have the fabric from JoAnns (5$ haha)
-Dash: I am not gonna remove dash and dye until I have a free day or two when I get back. It needs a lot of prep.
-Seat belts, back seat, hatch carpet are still blue. I don't what I am gonna do. I guess gray wagon interior would work.
-Door sill plastic that attaches to carpet. I need something stronger to dye/paint these. Probably gonna try Plasti-Dip.
Scrubbed with degreaser
I used the duplicolor trim paint in the above post. for some pieces I also tried the VHT dye and for some others I tested the Krylon fusion. I went pretty light on the coats so if they end up not working I can just redo it. So far the Duplicolor looks way better but the Krylon is stronger. I know everyone uses SEM dye but im on a major budget and im not trying to impress anyone.
Man I am really coming down to the wire on this. I am trying to get it put back together because my fiance agreed to ride in the wagon from the church to the reception! She has always hated riding in my cars.
When I got home this evening I got a few things done. I hope to install the rest of the interior in the morning. Unfortunately for now I will have blue rear seats, door panels, and dash. I will use SEM on the dash when I get back.
It was pretty much dark when I was working today but heres a few photos
$10 on craigslist. they are from an 04 but they fit fine for me. I washed the wagon ones and they basically disintegrated.
I finished the hatch
-used back to black on the rubber trim that goes along the sides of the windows
-painted the 3rd brake light housing and lens
-I used the Kyrlon fusion on the hatch plastic and the plastic on the bottom where the hatch closes.

I have put a ton of thought into what to do on the doors. The more I clean them and have seen door panels in better condition I want to start with new ones and use SEM or get grey ones and just keep them grey.
Well at first I just removed the bottom part of the wagon center console because I was reluctant to cut the DC2 center console. You can't have it all there without modifying something. When I get time to work on the car I plan on trimming the DC2 console a bit to get a tight fit. Will take pics when I can. It probably wont look great but its just for me.
They are just stock grey fronts and blue rears. The rears dont have any tears and haven't really been sat in but they are super faded.
I have some grey stripe del sols that I love but I don't have the welding skills to customize the brackets.
We are saving up to move hopefully in a few months.
The carpet has been dyed for about 4 months now and a few spots where it gets touched the most (where it meets the door panel at the driver door) you can see a little blue but I think a little refreshing would fix it right up. still not bad for $30-$40 and a lot of elbow grease.
I haven't actually done anything to the original blue door panels except scrub them to death with degreaser. I am debating trying a product called plasti-dip

If I went ahead and dyed the panels with SEM or tried plasti-dip I planned on taking the fabric out while I sprayed and just recover it at that time.

-Craigslist $20 CRX springs and struts (mine are blown beyond recognition)
-extended tophats 1'' fronts and 2'' rears
-DA rear LCAs (I had the original 88 box style rear LCAs)
I also got the 4 door DA rear strut bar but haven't installed it
The ride is so much better its not even funny for just used struts. It all went really well except the spring perch on the crx struts is so much higher I am riding 4x4 in the rear. I didn't raise the front up yet so I am totally raked and it looks hilarious.
I need some wagon rear struts!
The bolts that hold the LCAs to the rear subframe were totally stripped. I tried and tried to get them out with no luck. I had to bust out the cutting wheel. Took way longer than it should but I got to take my frustration out on those 88 LCAs.
Will try to take some pics tomorrow if it's still light when I am off work.
Mods since I last posted
-DPFI to MPFI via a subharness I got locally from a guy on craigslist. The harness is way too short I need to lengthen it but it runs great, I had the ECU tuned on Neptune. I am very happy with it.
-195 45 15 Federal tires mounted on 01 Civic EX wheels with hubcaps. Handles pretty good for half decent tires.

-01 Acura legend calipers. modded to fit DX knuckles done by BrakeExpert
11'' front rotors
Goodridge stainless brake lines for a EF sedan with rear drums
don't have any pics of these right now. I got the wheels to clear these calipers.
-DA 4 door rear sway bar and endlinks.
-Fake nardi steering wheel, still need hub and quick release
-Continuing battle to change entire interior to black. I have lots of good pieces from an EF sedan. Still stuck on what to do with dash and door panels though.
Future mods planned
Saving up for some real coilvers, going for PIC select or H&R Ultra lows
Cut shock towers to allow UCA room to move

Bought these on craigslist, advertised as 4x100, turned out to be 4x114. I guess that's what I get for looking at them in the dark. Sold them for $20 more than I paid.
