What roof rack did you use for yours?

The roof rails are from a Kia Sportage, the rest is Yakima. It works well, but my wife's is better. On hers I used Ford Aerostar rails.[/quote:1qo53p6j]

I want to buy a roof rack on eBay but I do not know which one? Bike, ski???

Mine is a bike rack because it has 2 bike trays. You can mount ski/board/kayak/etc. attachments to the same round crossbars. Think of it as a modular system. Start with towers to fit your car, then add crossbars. All of the Yak accessories will then fit those bars. Check out their website and play with the fit guide- it will help you understand how it all works.

cleaned things up a bit and replaced the head gasket

    680.jpg

Whoever worked on this before was a moron. I could see where he used some sort of abrasive wheel on a die grinder and gouged up the cylinder deck, and one of the head dowels was missing. I cleaned it up the best I could, maybe it'll hold.

Changed the oil and filter 3x to get the sludge out, drove it around the neighborhood. Runs out well, needs brakes and maybe an axle.

Okay, 'cause what I find great is that front panel that says Yakima on it. Would all Yakima kits (ski, bikes, etc) bring that front panel??? Thanks!

That's called a fairing, and is sold separately for about $40. A lot of used setups will include one because the wind noise from the rack is SIGNIFICANTLY louder without it.

Okay, I see. Oh, another thing, how many inches is that fairing? I was looking on eBay and they have different inches ones... Thank you very much... I am sorry but I am new on the Civic wagon world... I kind of lost... Thank you man...

    Well come see it, then!

Update: drove it to work today, first time it's been driven further than around the neighborhood. It ran well, just needs a little love.
Driver door doesn't want to open from inside.
    needs a window weatherstrip
    needs front brakes/rotors(came with it)
rear brakes? maybe just an adjustment
    idles too low in gear
need to put the rear propshaft back in
So far the head gasket appears to be ok, no fluids mixing...

After driving it to work just one day, I decided to fix the AC! Actually, my Dad is coming for a month-long visit starting may 4, and this will be his car while he's here. (Unless he picks something else!) He's forgotten more about cars than I'll ever learn, but he's 71 and I want him to be comfortable. He loves his EG sedan, so this should be familiar to him.

First I removed the power steering pump and condenser fan, but left them connected. Just laid them back out of the way

    895.jpg

Now you can see the compressor

    896.jpg

Unbolted it, but it doesn't want to come up out of there. Removed the PS pump bracket.

    897.jpg

    898.jpg

Cleaned up the area- what better time than now?

    899.jpg

Now, the reason I took the compressor off was to change the oil in it. This is not completely necessary, but is the best way to be sure what you have in there and how much. Turn the compressor upside down and drain the old oil out, occasionally rotating the compressor to help get it all out. A warm compressor will drain better- I used an incandescent droplight to help this one along.

    900.jpg

The textbooks say to measure the quantity of oil removed, and replace that same amount. From experience and with a calibrated eyeball, that's 4 oz. for these compressors. Use polyol ester oil. Just pour it in the low-side port a little at a time, rotating the clutch by hand in the normal direction of rotation to suck the oil in.

Reinstall the compressor, using new o-rings at any joint you disturbed. Put all the other junk back on, then you're ready to play!

Bought the adapter kit from Advance

    901.jpg

Then vacuumed the system for an hour or so. I elected not to replace the dryer, I haven't on any of these cars and they're fine.

    902.jpg

Added about 30 oz. of 134a, and she cools like a champ.

    Today I'll do exhaust, brakes....
  • show-off...

    :P ^^

Well, no pics today. I replaced the rear brakes, front rotors and pads. Reinstalled the driveline and re-engaged 4wd (disabled to tow home). Installed one of the stockish axle-backs I had (muffler was rusted out and no tips). Put all the plastic splashguard junk back on from the engine work. Put the LS meshies from my sedan on. Installed a Pioneer head unit I had here. Let's see, what else...

Oh, yeah, idle was too low, especially with AC on, so I replaced the EACV. One from a b18a1 works just fine.

Why'd you take the RT wheels off?

Only temporarily! They are in need of new tires and a little restoration, meanwhile the meshies have brandspankingnew shoes on.

I'm undecided about what size tires to get. I want something with a higher profile and maybe some knobbies 8)
  • Installed a Pioneer head unit
Oh no not again so bust...ed...
