Superhatch's Red Bull

Not sure if any of you remember me, but I got a Wagovan back in 07 and had it for about a year before I sold it and purchased an EP.

Now, a couple years later, I'm selling my EP and buying another Wagovan! I found a really great one out in Seattle, and this time I'm doing it right and picking up an RT4WD. I've already booked my flight and will be heading out on the 12th. On the 13th I've got an appointment for new RT-615's and then my gf and I will be driving it back to Milwaukee. I cant wait.

On the drive back:

Nice looks like its in great shape!
  • last week this car was posted for 3500 and i scanned through CL this week and its at 4000 now with nothing new haha...

    looks clean though
  • He had a lot of offers to start with and I think he posted it higher once he started to get a lot of replies. We worked out a good deal though :D

I was looking at the GSR swapped wagon in Iowa (I think), but he wanted like 6k, which was double what I wanted to spend. Red wouldn't have been my first choice, but it's -really- clean, and it's got RT, so I couldn't pass it up.
  • lol i almost bought that its from washington huh!? i had to pass...
  • Any reason you passed?

  • So, currently there are 14" wheels on the car. I wanted to get a set of trusty 615 Azeins but it seems they are on back order, nation wide, for 60 days (damn autox-ers  ). So my next option was for Dunlop Z1 star specs...and that bumped up the price of the tires by $80. I didn't want to spend that kind of money on 195/14's so Im looking for new 15" wheels to match the 205/50/15 Z1's I have on order.

If anyone has any leads on some steelies, stock Acura/Honda wheels, or 15"s under $300 let me know!
  • Found some! They will do until I get a set I really want.

That's gorgeous. Most red Hondas are all sorts of faded.

Pic with new wheels and tires, had to raise it an inch to fit the 15x7s. Big thanks to Speed Factory for helping out with raising the coil sleeves! The car had a few more problems than expected, which will cost a bit to fix (windshield needs replaced, no wiper spray lines/tank/pump, rear struts blown, temp gauge intermittent, engine light O2 code), nothing too serious, but adds a bunch of time and money I hadn't planned on spending.

Ill post up some more pics when we get to the hotel in 6 hours. :)
  • Also, the new dunlop z1 star specs are really responsive and quieter than my last set of rt-615s. Worth the extra cost imo. Running a 205/50.
  • Entering Yellowstone today! We got into Bozeman, Mt at 6am. Yes, 6am. Timeline of our trip so far:

    Friday
    - Flight got delayed by an hour, arrived in Seattle at 11pm.
    - Rental car fiasco (didnt have my reservation)
    - Picked up wheels
    - Picked up car
    - Girlfriend got pulled over (speeding, no ticket...damn cute girls).
    - Went to the wrong rental car return (downtown vs SeaTac)
    - Went to sleep at 4am.

    Saturday
    - Woke up at 7am to get to tire apt. in Belview (?)
    - Couldn't get wheels/tires under fenders
    - Drove to 3 shops looking for someone to raise the coils, told to hit up Speed Factory
    - Back to downtown Seattle to pick up GF, drove to Tacoma/Speed Factory
    - Speed Factory for a while (SUPER awesome guys!) then left at 1.
    - Arrived at Bozeman @ 6am...ugh.

Today should be better, we slept in until 2 (yay late check out for platinum members), and we have a relaxing day sightseeing in Yellowstone, and a short drive to our Hotel tonight. :)

My girlfriend forgot the cable for her camera so I'll have to update with camera pics after we get back. Oh! The heater puts out heat about 40% of the time, luke warm air 60% of the time. Another thing to fix.

Now, I realized, I kinda got ripped on the price of the car. I contacted the previous owner to discuss any possible re-negotiation of the price, but that seems unlikely I think. :(

Welcome to buying an RT in 2010. At least the car is running well.

More pics when you get home!
  • The left rear seat doesn't have the lever to release it and lay down. So many little things.

The car is running like a top though. :)

After a long and tiring journey from Seattle, the Wagovan is home in Milwaukee. It does have some issues though, which I am trying to work out in a settlement with the previous owner. The problems are as follows:

    - Cracked Windshield. The glass has 3 serious cracks and 5-6 chips...its unsafe, and I was told it had "a" crack in it. It needs to be replaced asap.

    - Valve head bold threads sheared off (engine light). About 1/2 way into our journey we stopped for fuel and noticed smoke coming from the engine bay. I was worried about overheating but found the underside of the hood covered in oil...equally bad. I soon found that the left rear valve cover nut was not in place and a small piece of electrical tape was holding on the gasket. The tape gave loose, the gasket fell off and oil was squirting out of the hole surrounding the bolt. The problem is that the threads were sheared off the valve cover bolt, so no nut could be put on. The owner said -nothing- about this and it could have led to serious issues on the road. Parts cost me $26, and I could have replaced the broken piece in about 10m had I known about it. The real problem was that the spark plug gasket near the nut was not making secure contact so the whole spark plug chamber would fill with oil while driving. That said, the car made the whole trip on 3 cylinders.

    - Windshield washer components missing. Gone. Pump, tank, lines, everything under the hood. Again, no mention of this until I go to make sure I have enough fluid for the trip the next day.

    - Heater core problems. Heat on 1-2, luke warm air on 3-4.

    - Temperature gauge problems. Stays below the lowest hash mark while driving, if stopping for traffic or other quick slow downs and stops the temp gauge rises to the normal position for 4th gens, then drops below when driving. Coolant level good.

    - Passenger seat belt fraying. Need to get this fixed, safety hazard

    - Front seats ripped/dated
    - Steering wheel too small (290mm)

    - Rear drivers side seat wont recline. The whole plunger assembly is gone.

    - Timing needs adjustment. He put in a new Dizzy w/o checking the timing.

    - Rear struts blown (needs new suspension overall). Found this while adjusting the suspension up 1" for the drive.

    - Alignment
    - Removal of the rally 5 panel mirror, add visors/rear mirror. Great during the day, sucky at night.

    - Missing Honda oem spare jack and tools
    - Possible exhaust leak

I'll update this list with fixes as they come along, or make a separate post if it is noteworthy.
  • well, my 1st impression...

    thats plain rude...

    very discreet...

    no?

The other wheels were suuuuper cheap meshies, and 14x5.5 (made in argentina). Not a lot of tire choices in 14's. I got the momo's and actually fell in love with them. I'm gonna get them refinished this summer and use them as my wheel of choice....for this year.

But...the 14's will be my winter wheels I think.
