The REO Speedwagon - my 89 RT4WD

The club I autocross with calls a Civic hatchback a "shoe," due to its appearance somewhat similar to one. I figure that if the hatch is a shoe, my larger, taller, and more sure footed wagon is therefore a "boot."

Here's how it looked the day I brought it home. Of course, I can't leave ANYTHING alone for long, so I got to work.

Here's how it looks now. Yeah, I ripped off the Mini Cooper S with the hood stripes, but I think they work well with the contours of the hood.
Also installed the Hella 530 fog lights I've used on a number of cars in the past. The Boot's already turning into a rally wagon.
Inside I've installed my Icom IC-2100H ham radio. Right now I've put a magnetic antenna on the roof, but will permanently mount one later. The car still has its original factory AM/FM radio (!!!) I've spotted a package deal at Pep Boys I'll pick up once I sell the car this wagon is replacing - a Sony CD/MP3 player and two 6.5" speakers. Later on I'll probably put a couple of speaker pods in back, OEM or otherwise.
When nicer weather comes, I plan to do some junkyard picking. The driver's seatback bolster is worn and leaking foam. I'd like to snag a pair of Si seats. Maybe an Si steering wheel, too. For now I've just put on some cheap seat covers. Since this is my daily driver, I don't want to go too crazy on performance mods (also don't want to strain the autotragic tranny too much), but maybe I'll do an intake at some point to add a bit of growl to the engine sound. The OEM-spec exhaust is less than a year old so I don't feel like messing with it. Would like to pick up some 14" or 15" alloys off another Civic model, though. They'd become my summer cruising wheels. Then I'd repaint the stock 14" steelies and put some decent snow tires on them for winter and maybe the occasional rallycross.

My one and only cone hit all day and he had to capture it for posterity...
I know the Atlanta region has a dB limit due to neighboring housing.
I run with the Cumberland Motor Club. I don't think there's any specific noise limit, but there are very few noisy cars. Mine has a stock exhaust! And most are still street legal. Noise was discussed on the club forum a while back, and it's been generally agreed to keep it down for the reasons you mention.
No, they're not alloys - they're the stock 14" steels!
(I like the "courier parking only" sign, too - I worked as a courier in the past, though not in either of my wagons!)
The white thing on the roof just in back of the windshield is my tiny video camera on its magnetic mount.
Rear wheelwell rust is coming through, so I'm going to work on that this weekend.
And here's the car in my driveway yesterday:
Studded snow tires are on, and I FINALLY got my ham radio antenna on a permanent roof mount, rather than the magnetic mount I'd been using up to this point. Looks much better - in fact you can't even really see an antenna in this pic.
And yes, that's a CRX behind the wagon - my gf's 88 Si. Our Miata is under the cover next to it.
props to you for that.
Wish we had enough intrest for snow/rallycross in this area. Id have my wagon out throwing dirt without even thinking about it.
Got any plans for ice racing up here?
Reading the terrain as you drive it is part of the skill of rallyx - not to mention the course changes! Unlike autox, they'll change the course in the middle of the event to avoid particularly rutted and/or soft areas. My experience is that these changes are often NOT announced, so you have to keep your eyes open. Such as, suddenly these cones are a few feet further to the inside of the turn you're entering, and there's some firm grass there that hasn't been torn up yet - dive to the inside to get the grip! And a lot of it is also driving close to the limits, but leaving enough in reserve to not screw yourself if something unexpected happens. Rallyx is scored by adding together your times from EVERY run, rather than taking your best single run like autox, so consistency rather than all out speed is more important - and what I'm much better at.
But we don't have many rallyx events close to where I live. I can't justify tricking out a car for it other than my daily driver and going all over New England to events - especially when I live up in the corner of New England. So I'll be sticking to autox mostly, with the Miata. I only ran the wagon as much as I did this past year because my gf's CRX was broken most of the season and we wanted to drive SOMETHING. (Even then, it was replaced by a Prelude, Civic Si, and Miata on various occasions...)
Speaker pods (thanks to jb2wheels) with Sony Xplod speakers
Passenger mirror (thanks to lalunette)
Currently running without fog lights - the plastic was cracking where I had one of them mounted, so I removed them before I lost them. Planning to mount them in the OEM location sometime soon...
Get rid of that shit!
I realize it might have been funny for a minute, but you really gotta take em off
I originally cut the fog holes for my Hella 530s, which are bigger. Only after cutting did I learn there wasn't enough clearance behind them to install them like I wanted.
fuckin stripes lol
Atleast you're havin a shit load of fun with your car!
EG hatch's are hideous!
Get rid of that shit!
LOL
Now with mad tyte EDM yo headlights, thanks to wagodizzle!
i usually dont swear, but this is a well deserved emphasis on Fucking SIK!!!
