    nice
  • The side markers are awesome, and I don't know why.

What's up with the hood? Looks bent. Or are you doing that for extra ventilation?

    Gah... nope.

    How about ITB's?
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
It might provide ventilation but it severely hampers the airflow in the nose of the car with negative handling effects.
  • ctmee2ctmee2 Wagonist
how would it it hamper it? correct me if im wrong,as air flows over the hood it creates a vacuum and sucks the air out threw the gap thats above where the hood and windshield is. well may be a wind tunnel could help us out. ill call mythbusters. ahhaah

It all depends on the frontal design of the car. Maybe in a McLaren it might be good but not a bloody Civic Wagon. :P

The guys I know in Japan only did this when the motors they swapped in their cars wouldn't allow the hood to close properly. Also remember in Japan highway speeds are max 80kmh.

Also this mod only works at low speeds and idle. It does exactly the opposite at high speeds. The base of the windshield is a high pressure area and prevents hot air to escape at higher speeds.

I read where one guy did a test and it raised the underhood temps by 15 degrees.

On my car at idle I could see the heat leave the "vent" but they have since been removed.
  • i did it cus its hard to fit a honda S2000 motor with out raising your hood a little just to clear the supercharger  yea right! (only in my wet dreams) something about a drifting wagon that sounds sick! www.civicwagon.com

i buy the motor swap "theory" but ive seen Nissan's with this modification . they have regular sr20det swaps in there. im sure that the motor does not stick out the hood. and for the 15 degrees in temp, where did u read that. id like to source that and read it too. heheeh
  • I thought it was for individual throtle bodies and if it isn't for better heat dissipation then why are there so many factory cars with cowl hoods. That was one of the reasons for that design I thought. Look at a GT40 for example(little more extreme than a wagon but...) the air moving over and up the hood and windshield sucks air from front of the car and through the tunnel where the radiator is mounted. I'm sure it helps on a wagon but we don't get to far passed 100mph(theoretically).

    I could be wrong :P
  • i hit 105 right before my timing belt snapped! down hill with the wind behind me.

So am i the only Shuttle owner to hit the 200km/h mark? :D

cowl hoods, and raising the rear of the hood has been done by americans since the 50s and 60s on muscle cars.

i love it when people think thats "jdm".

to me, it makes the front of the car look "broken". your otherwise, VERY clean car, now has lines like you rear ended someone, and didnt get your hood to line back up properly.

but other than that, i love it!

ok, if the americans did it first then sorry for not knowing the roots of tunning. but i really would like to kno why? is it for ventilation, front downforce or motor swaps?
  • I have started a new thread in the "Bodywork section" so that we don't jack up ctmee2's thread anymore than we already have.
