Are ignitors specific to different types within the same year model?

I need to get another for FERTHER {'89 RT4WD}.
When checking out RockAuto's various offerings one say's "except RT4WD/all wheel drive" and another says it's for the SI model, but none are listed as for the RT4WD.
Is this just a marketing ploy or is there really a difference?

ignition coil? SI had the A6 so that one is the same but i think the distributors are just OBD differences.
  • No, the ignitor goes under the coil. It's what all the wires connect to.
I've been checking various parts companies and it seems the ignitor is *not* model specific from what I can tell. In fact the same one appears to be used most of the various Hondas around that year.
I'm just hoping some of the Honda experts on here can confirm.

well it wouldn't differ per distributor and they dont really per motor. I wouldnt over think this one. RT = d16a6 si = d16a6
  • Thanks, Abide.
That's what I kinda figgered, it's just rockAuto threw me off with the "except rt4wd.

This is what I've got.It might help you with picking the right distributor.

'88-'91 1.6l civics and '88-'91 preludes 2.0l use the same distributors.

Model number TD-02U or TD-18U will fit on your D16A6 .

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong
