Removing and attaching lift supports

I'm in the process of changing out my lift supports and have so far followed another members guide on removing the lower portion of the lift support via hacksaw. My question is I can't seem to figure out how to reattach the top portion, is it possible to remove the bracket housing and reattach that to the new lift?

On the left is the old lift with the top bracket.

    I decided I'm just going to order some Strong Arm lifts make it easier, I'm pretty sure the guy I bought the car for got the wrong lift supports anyway.

    the lift supports i got came with new top brackets. i thought they pretty much all came with the necessary brackets.

    Same here. I got mine from Amazon and they even came with new plastic covers.

    I ended up doing it the ghetto way and cutting a slit in the rear interior to put my new ones in. Good luck man.
