I have my own family.

Let's be real, I will never be married or have children.

On a serious note, I purchased my second red RT earlier this week. It's a '90 auto with 205k on the odometer and ZERO RUST! Growing up in the midwest I never owned a car that was rust free, so this car is quite valuable to me.
A few weeks ago I had spotted this RT while I was at my local snow cone trailer. I left an offer with the owner of the car, without much hope of getting a reply. Two weeks later he called me and said that he hit a curb while texting. He smeared the passenger front lower control arm back a few inches. There also is heavy damage on the fender, bumper, and RT wheel. The owner offered to put the car in my driveway for a very good price. I accepted.
Not sure what's going to happen with these two cars. My original plan was was to use the '90 as a parts car, but as proceed to take the damaged parts off... it really isn't that bad. I may decide to just fix the car and sell it. Even putting it in storage is a huge option.

This was taken on my small trip to Liberty Hill, Texas to see what kind of damage the curb caused.

The prime time side of the wagon. This was taken as they were pulling up to my house. Boner time for sure.

I suppose I will keep both cars in the same build thread.
As of right now I have removed the front fender and bumper. I am in the process of getting the lower control arm out of there.

I will keep you guys updated.

Here is my other RT. I bought it from a hcw user named Dr woodstock a couple of years ago. Went though some headaches with this one.

  • Nice find! Any plans with the other RT, or are you just competing with Bam??? LOL
  • moscaridermoscarider Band Wagon
No competition. :) There are a lot of plans floating around in my head. I need to keep a DD around, whichever car that turns out to be.

I hope this will salvage with some heat. I've been looking for years.

Mildy stuck here. I don't have enough room between the auto trans and where the lower control arm is mounted. Is my only option to loosen up the transmission mounts and muscles some stuff around?
By the way, good image of the 2wd/4wd switch on an auto RT.

  • Looking good. I had a rim kinda like that (not a RT) just a steel wheel. Take the tire off and with some patients and with a large BMFH and some wood (2x4) cut it out to the curves of the rim and heat it up and place your foot on the edge over the rim and the wood use the hammer to beat it in. Be patient do a little at a time let the rim cool for a bit and then do a little again. This will help with the molecular structure of the rim. Just in case start looking for a used one and keep this as a spare

Yeah I dont think it will be too bad 1sleeperwagon, just some finesse and patience. Thanks for the advice!

if u look around yer local junkyard find a civic with factory 14" steelies they are the same as the RT wheels minus paint, center cap and lug nuts. theres a thread somewhere on here talking about it.

Haha hell yeah thanks man! We haven't met but my sister met you when she had her red coupe. Do you go to the Saturday meets at frys off parmer? You should this weekend!
  • moscaridermoscarider Band Wagon
I have heard about the frys gathering, haven't made it out there yet though. I'm on the south side of austin so it's a bit of a hike. I won't make it this weekend due to the naked bike ride in austin. Next weekend I will make an effort though for sure.

"WNBR (world naked bike ride) Austin is an amalgam of art and motion as message. The message is both celebration and protest and is part of an international day of bike riding to support sustainable transportation, safety on the streets and freedom of expression. We demonstrate nude to bring attention to this cause and because we are “naked” and vulnerable amidst the steel and asphalt of city traffic."

I tried to fire up the car last night. The fuel pump is not priming. I have voltage being delivered to the pump. I put a temporary fuel pump in and she fires right up. So a fuel pump is added to my list of parts. This morning I tried straighten up the passenger fender, I may still have to get another one.

    The damage:
    -bent RT wheel
    -bent right LCA
    -bent right strut rod
    -smashed right fender
    -smashed bumper
    -fuel pump
-right rear quarter glass pane. EEEEEK!
    -large dent in the hood

I will take some photos tonight.

My project is at a stand still. I started a new job two weeks ago assembling bicycles, it will be a month before I can spend again.

I have been searching for friends that have an oxy/acetylene torch... no luck yet.

    you comin out this saturday?
  • cbaracingcbaracing Wagonist
with a curb hit that bad you really need to inspect the rear crossmember and plan on replacing it
  • moscaridermoscarider Band Wagon
That was the first thing I covered. A few different measurements tell me that the rear crossmember did not bend or move out of place.
    Thanks for the wisdom cbaracing.
