Skitso's 88 DX build

Picked up my Wagon back in February and am absolutely in love with it. Left it stock for about two months and figured it was time to start diggin into the mods. Here it is when I first got it.

And the rust repair began. Start by grinding all the loose rust off the body.

Time for paint!

Ignore the left over bondo on the trim.....

Still needs to be buffed in to fully match the color. Over 20 years of dirt and wear on the surrounding paint makes it stand out pretty hard. But I'm pretty confident I can get it to fade in.

Same day as I painted, I added some Godspeed RS coilovers and BMW bottlecap wheels.

Future plans are to get the bumpers and trim restored and maybe add some paint on those wheels. Then it'll be time for a swap.

Looking good. That's some clean body work!

Yeah really nice compared to the old rusty spots. I need to try and do this to my girlfriends '80 Accord. How are you liking the Type-RS' so far? How much more drop do you have left? And did you just go with the standard 7k/6k spring rates?

Yes, this color is very nice too. My wife used to own one like that back home. The same color. The wagon was like 6 year though....

Thanks man. The bondo isn't ideal, but it's definitely better than the rust spots and should hold it over just fine until I can source some panels to weld up.

The RS coilovers are pretty sweet. I haven't actually measured how far I dropped them, but by the looks of it, I could easily get another inch out of it. They are the 7k/6k rates, which are a little softer than I'd like. Even with the dampening maxed out, it's still got some a little slop to it when cornering sharply. But on the upside, they ride really comfortably, which my girlfriend definitely approves of.

Yeah I love the cream! I'd only ever consider painting it back to this original color. Just a great look on a wagon.

Thanks for the info. I called Godspeed to see if they could change out the 7kg/6kg standard springs for 8kg/10kg that Justin-xxx had on his but they told me they don't do that and never have. Weird. Guess you could put different springs on if you really wanted to. I just ordered a set of Type-RS coilovers 3 minutes ago. You helped me seal the deal, so thanks! Did you put them on yourself? I see it says that for the warranty to be effective they must be installed by a tuner shop. I wonder how often that happens.

^Congrats on the purchase man, glad I could help. You won't be disappointed. And yes I put them on myself. The warranty would be nice, but it kind of hurts my pride not to do the simpler mods like that on my cars.

Thanks man! I ended up ordering them through the driven by style website and wrote them asking about changing out spring rates. They said they could do it no problem, so I think I'm going to go with the 8kg/10kg setup. What would you change to if you could? Feel ya on the install, kinda silly to pay someone to do something you can handle yourself.

Ha ha..I was reading your welcome thread, and I was really excited to see that my wagon came with rear flaps as well, and the really cool "Honda" ones at that. Like you, those would have been the first buy on my list! Didn't come with AC, power steering, rear speaker pods or passenger side mirror though. Not quite sure what else were options. I bought fender mirrors off eBay and will install the right one instead of a regular mirror as I saw that before and liked it. Kinda adds to the retro feel of things. I had really wanted a white/cream wagon but couldn't end up finding one, even though I searched for over a month. Blue was actually my least favorite, but it's growing on me. I would like to paint it white one day though, and a grey interior would be my first choice. I had something strange happen with my Godspeeds, one of the little adjuster things on the very top that turns/clicks popped off when I took off the rubber cover and something shot off into the grass and we couldn't find it. Think it was possibly a spring or really small C-clip. Now the adjuster doesn't click, it just spins. I think it is still adjusting the dampening but it's harder to tell where it's at. I told Godspeed and they said to return it but that'd really suck to have to take it off, send it in and wait for a replacement! I wish I could figure out how to just fix it as is. If you happen to have any ideas at all let a brutha know! Hope to see you post up some new news of your wagon! BTW, my youngest brother is stationed at Goose Creek as he's a Nuke in the Navy.

^I might actually be disassembling mine to remove one of the adjuster rings soon, so if I come across that piece, I'll see if I can't match one up at Lowes and get you a part number.

And that's cool about your brother being here. Small world, eh? I'm actually in Goose Creek as well, it's just easier to write Charleston since it's more recognizable. I do feel kinda sorry for him though, as there is absolutely NOTHING to do in this town.
