I'm going 3rd gen. (My 88 soon to be parted out) Update

Alright guys finally got some free time and the right stuff to work on the wagons rough body. I took the hood, front bumper, and side skirts off. I finished the side skirt on the drivers side and finished the hood. The hood still needs some love but it looks better now with the holes in it then it did with the roughly slapped on generic scoops it had and terrible paint. I didn't do too good on the side skirt but I'll fix it before paint.
UPDATE: 87 wagovan pictures at the bottom of this page.

Lookin good. How are you planning on doing the rear pass. quarter panel?

Man I'm not even sure yet. Do they have patch panels anywhere that fit wagons? If not I'll have to fab something up.

    working,working,working
  • looks like its a lot of work. but it also looks like like you got mad skills great job :D
  • GlifiousGlifious Wagonist
Haha I don't know about mad skills. This is my first time ever doing body work. I'm good with artsy shit and I guess that's what you need while doing body work. Hopefully it turns out ok. I can't get the sheet metal for another few days. The metal I have now is too thick and won't work right. Thanks for the compliment though. :D
  • Replaced the front drivers side brake caliper as it was seized up. Also installed a new alternator, and alt belt . The old one was dead and the old belt started smoking and flew off. The pivot bolt was seized on the alternator and I had to torch it to break it free. I had to drive it out with a hammer and small punch. Disconnected the master cylinder and just pulled it through the top. Also welded up the top of the hood with some thin sheet metal. God I hate how this metal is so thin. Anyway it doesn't look too terribly bad. I need to toss a skim coat over it and sand it smooth. I'll get some pictures of it in a few hours.
  • Much props to you if you turn that rear quarter panel to its shine again.

    keep up the good work..
  • Of course, just gotta get those donor panels and weld it up. Haha. Thanks man.

Luckily for Joy (Oh yeah, I named her Joy) It's chemo time...
  • GlifiousGlifious Wagonist
More to come soon. I have a lot of cutting, grinding, and welding to do. Oh and of course black primer. Just until she's ready for paint. Then it's panda wagon time. I've seriously never seen so much rust through and rot on a car in my life and I've owned some seriously old vehicles. I have no idea why I'm even doing this, I just love the wagon so much I have to restore it. Oh well, more practice for me in the long run right?...right... . . . . . . .

wow...that looks like quite the project. that car almost looks dead.
  • Great work......most people would'nt take the time to bring this car back to life it's nice to see someone trying. I've been working on some of the same issues.

Wow man, I know I wouldn't attempt what you're doing. Kudos to you!

Update: The 88 RTAWD wagon will soon be parted out. The entire subframe was just way too rusty for me to safely repair the car. A body shop wanted $10,000? as well... Idk might have been on crack but he said it just isn't safe and I can agree on that, but looky what I found! My new 87 legit Wagovan. Steelies will be repainted soon.
  • AaronAaron Wagonist
the 3rd looks nice! would have given up on the 88 too myself lol
  • Keep the steelies pink they're pretty BA lol
  • GlifiousGlifious Wagonist
Lmao. I'm thinkin white to be too legit. I'm not much of a pink guy myself. Haha.
  • Well you did the best you can and now its time to get back on the road safely Look at it this way you have alot aparts, that are worth good money for you next project. All I have to say you are the man to talk on a project like that. Hopefully the next project isn't so bad. Good Luck to you.
