"TrustEE" the '91 DX [picture happy]

It appears as if I'm a little late to the Wagon game, but better late than never I guess. I decided to go with the name "TrustEE" because it seemed fitting, while totally not trying to be clever at all!

I got the car around 8 months ago from my G'Pa who gave it to me as a super clean, brown 91 DX with no rust :D (that I can see...yet) and only 92,xxx miles. I was SUUUPER STOKED to see that he took amazing care of it! I had originally planned on just using this car for a while to get me around LA and dump it when I was a bit better off, but after reading around on this site and seeing all the time, effort, and passion people have put into these Wagons it got me to thinking... Why not? Since then, I've had a few conversations with the G'Pa and decided to keep it forEVER! Or, at least as long as I possibly can.

Unfortunately my lifestyle doesn't allow me to work on cars too often so when I get the chance, I usually migrate to my buddy's garage in San Diego and we try and get a whole bunch of stuff done all at once. This is where I'm starting on the first of many "Build Days" to come. So here goes... hope you enjoy.

So far...

After all that, I had forgotten there was a small leak in the radiator that I fixed a few months back with some "Stop Leak" so about 1/2 mile down the road all I can see is smoke out the windshield and green piss out my rearview! Unfortunately, my local shop was about 3 miles past the first 7 free miles you get with "AAA" so the bill was right at $40, but my long time buddy Scott from "Scott's Automotive" (HWY 101 in Encinitas) hooked it up and forgot the labor on the radiator 'cause we figured out that my G'Pa never did the timing belt... Yay for spending money  !

Sooo, with the sweet, yet expensive weekend at an end, it was time for me to roll back up to LA for work and what nots. I'll post more pics when I clean her out a bit and make her more presentable. Lates!

goodluck with the build bro. im glad u saved it rather than salvage it. lol cheers!
  • Thanks! However, I hope my use of "dump" didn't come across as "horrible death"... I promise I was referring to "sell." I definitely would never wish death to any automobile, except maybe this one!

    MUAHAHAAAA!
  • I found a few minutes while I was waiting for the girlfriend to get ready and I painted one of my H's haha. I'll do the other one in a few days or so...

In other news, I've been riding around with the new Audio and I've decided that the Polks sound Awesome for what they are! The deck is pretty nice with the Bluetooth function (w/ purchase of adapter, of course), wma/mp3/aac codecs, and it looks rad in red, BUT!

I got it mostly for the iPod USB connect that I ran through the glove box and unfortunately I think I'm going to have to switch back to the regular 3.5toRCA AUX jack. With the USB, the song and album titles show up on the screen and you can control the iPod from the deck, but you can't do anything else. You can't hear a phone call unless you have the Bluetooth adapter, you can't play other sources of audio such as Pandora, you can't control the iPod just by itself, and you can't listen to your voicemail!

I would rather use the phone's iPod control rather than the deck's menu system and I prefer the clock over scrolling text any ways so since the headphone jack wont charge the iPhone, I'm gunna keep the USB tucked in the glovebox just for that. I wanna try and fab something out of the ashtray with the headphone jack mounted sturdy enough to act as a dock that will hold the phone in place, I just don't know if I'm ready to lose my coin holder! We'll see how it goes.

Here's some more pics simply for enjoyment (mostly mine) :D ...

Welcome....Looks like a good start.I was thinking of painting my emblems black, but took them all off for now.
  • car looks great
  • Thanks guys! I'm gunna wait a few days until I'm done editing a video that's due soon. I think I'm gunna paint my bumpers and door trim as well when I do my other H. The back bumper especially had gotten those wavy lines that I've seen on a few other wagons. LAME! Then when I put new shoes in the back I'll paint the rims. One step at a time I guess haha.

That's something I feared on my CRX, damaging my fenders or bumper, cause I had some really bad tires all around that I ran for over a year on them; they came with the car & never changed em. Nearly blew out on me on the grapevine (leaving from Bakersfield) heading out to Santa Clarita.

Thanks! And you totally should. Everyone needs a wagon because it's good for you.

I unfortunately had to drive about 5 or so miles on it like that and some on the freeway, so I'm very lucky! Had it fully exploded and ruined my plastics I wouldn't have been able to work on her this weekend!

Long time no see... I've finally done something, but I didn't get all I planned because I ran out of time and spray! Once again, for another day. I found some free time while in San Diego visiting my parents and I got to painting some things.

Rear bumper, side moldings, hatch under the window & above the headlights, the back H emblem, and pass side window strips. I used SEM Bumper Coater (39083 - Gloss Black) on the back bumper and side moldings. For the window stripping and hatch I used Rust-Oleum (Auto Primer) and Krylon (Indoor/Outdoor - Gloss Black)

    Paint!

Then I was like screw it and at the first break I got I slapped another coat on and did the sides!

Thinking about changing the H emblem to Red. Good, bad?

Oh, almost forgot! On the way back up to LA I hit the magical number. I'm pissed I wasn't paying attention, but I got it soon enough.

I'll finish the skirts, front bumper, and license plate area when I get more time and spray. 'Til next time... PEACE!

NICE NICE! :) I just bought my wagon 2 days ago. We are now twins! But you're the better looking half. :P
  • very clesn. i like the touch up on the moldings you did. just a question. if i were to do that it would cover up the rtawd logo. how to let the logo live on????
  • Looking good!

As for keeping the RT4WD Logo on the side moldings you could tape it off or either put some vaseline over the logo then just wipe it off after the paint dries.

looks good... maybe do the "H" the same color as the body???
