Got a few things accomplished this morning. Replaced the timing belt, water pump, crank seal, cam seal, installed the Si cam with the Y8 cam gear, new valve cover gasket set, and it all started up perfect on the first try. I don't care how many times I do it, whenever I mess with timing there is always that shred of doubt in the back of my mind, "Did I set everything right? What if I messed up and f*** up my head?", lol. But yeah everything went fairly smooth and I had it knocked out in about 3 hours. Here are a few pics.
Everything taken apart
Si cam in
New water pump
Timing belt and other seals installed and everything put back together.
Might try doing the DPFI-MPFI conversion but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself cause this is my daily and need to drive it Monday morning. I might just wait until next weekend.
Took it for the first test drive. Right around 4k rpms, I notice a good difference with the Si cam. It runs really awesome. Not a bad upgrade for only spending $26.
okay, so i got my new tires in today, Toyo Proxes 4, and got them mounted, balanced, and got an alignment with a 3 year warranty (good for when I lower my car, lol). the car rides a hell of a lot better. also hit up the salvage yards today to get a few parts and I came across a set of Neuspeed lowering springs for $30. Didn't have my allen wrenches to take the springs off the strut assemblies, but I'm going back tomorrow and snagging them for sure. will take pics of the new wheels tomorrow.
on a bad note though, on my way back my car started running a little hot. I just replaced the water pump so I know it's not that, it was topped off on coolant, fans were kicking on, so I'm guessing it's the thermostat. I picked one up and a replacement gasket of course. gonna put those on tomorrow sometime.
Replaced the thermostat today and it was still running hot. Then I gave myself a firm kick in the back side because I remembered I never bled my coolant system after replacing the water pump  . So I bled the coolant sysytem and now she runs fine. Got the Neuspeed lowering springs today and put them on. Car looks really good but I definitely need new struts, lol. Oh well, one thing at a time, right? I took pictures of the wheels on the car but it was really dark after I lowered it so I will have pics of it lowered tomorrow. Left my camera out in the car and don't feel like getting it to upload the pics of just the wheels on the car so I'll just do that tomorrow as well.
I'm not copletely content with the back. Right now I am using civic hatch struts with the lowering springs. I might try switching back to the wagon struts and try a combination of different civic/crx spings.
I've had a front camber kit that I bought years ago for my original CRX but never put it on before I sold it. It's been sitting in my garage for a while now and decided to put it on. So I did that and took it for another alignment today. Turns out it was a good thing cause apparently I had more negative camber on my driver's side then my passenger's side. Now it is even
Been a long while since I made a post. I've had some personal issues I've been working through but figured I'd give a small update. I got the rear lowered more and am happy with the ride height. however about a month ago I was driving home when it statred being very difficult to get into gears and when I pushed the clutch pedal in, it didn't fell like it was disengaging. I tried to limp it home but to no avail. So a quick phone call and got it towed to my house and it's been sitting until just tonight when I finally had the funds to buy a clutch kit and rear main seal since I'm in there anyways. Pull the tranny to find this.........
Just in case anyone doesn't know, this is what a release bearng (or throw out bearing which ever you prefer to call it) is supposed to look like.
This is what mine looked liked when I pulled the transmission out. Good fun, no?
Tomorrow I start putting everything back together. Even though only the release bearing is bad, I'm still replacing the clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and the rear main cause I would hate to drive the car as is and two months later have to take everything apart again to replace one thing or another.
