My moderate Wagon build

Still really new to the forum but not to Hondas by any means. I've owned every other type of EF and finally got a Wagon to go full circle. I bought it last Monday (2.21.2011) and so far it has been doing very well. Needed a good cleaning on the inside and I've done a mild tune-up. This will be just a mild build. I was thinking of converting it to AWD but decided against it. Now I mainly want it for a good daily driver to haul the kids around in and get groceries on the weekend and what not, but it'll still have a few goodies.

I've ordered the energy suspension master kit to replace the old worn out bushings and the RTA bushings as well. Just today I changed the oil with an OEM filter, replaced the transmission fluid with Honda MTF, and replaced the spark plugs with some NGK's. Also, I replaced the stock steelies with some CRX Si alloys, tomorrow I will be getting everything needed to do a dpfi to mpfi swap and an Si cam, and yesterday I picked up a crx si rear sway bar and I purchased from Honda a new valve cover gasket set, crank seal and cam seal, and ordered from them a new timing belt and intake manifold gasket. I'll get a new water pump from them as well when I pick up the timing belt and IM gasket. Anyways, on to some pics.

  • interior looks super clean! very nice!
  • Looks really great. I was scrolling through the pics to see some flaw somewhere and I just caught the good 'ole worn out seat bolster. Super clean otherwise! Who was the previous owner?

Thanks guys. Lol, yeah the seat bolster is almost a given in any of these cars. It's not the only flaw though. I need to replace the hatch as well. One of the hinges is broken and the factory "spoiler" is missing and the holes that it bolts into are bent up. I'm on the hunt for one though. I found it on craigslist down in Houston by some random guy that bought it for his ex-girlfriend. After they broke up she was supposed to buy it from him since it was still in his name but she never gave him any money for it. So now it's mine, lol. I have a friend who works at a home & car audio and tinting company and hopefully either today or next weekend he will tint it for me.

Got the crx si rear lower control arms put on and got all the stuff to do the mpfi swap. I'll try and get that done next weekend. Also gonna try and fab up some brackets to mount the sway bar to.
  • I WANT ONE!! SELL ME YOURS!

Damn I need access to classified sections now!

    wow, that things super clean
  • OMG, did you guys see those fenders?! Not a dent! I would giggle like a school-girl if I found an un-dented wagon like this one.
  • ReaccionReaccion Senior Wagonist
Wow!! I do not know where you guys find these clean wagons???? This one is clean and nice!!!

make sure that when u install the a6 cam you use a Y series cam gear, or an adjustable cam gear to account for the different cam indexing when compared to the B2.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Thanks guys for the compliments and thanks danz for the reminder. I remeber reading about that years ago but didn't even think about it until you mentioned it.

The A6 cam with a Y8 cam gear is a nice little boost of power. I had it in mine when I still had the single cam. Also, you should try the zc pistons. Those three mixed give it a nice increase. Good looking wagon, wish mine looked that good when I got it. LOL
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Maybe if the engine ever needs a rebuild then I'll do the ZC pistons, but for now I'm just doing the cam and typical bolt-ons (header, intake, and exhaust). It looks good from everywhere but the rear. I really need to hunt down a hatch.

Energy Suspension master kit showed up today. Now comes the fun part of removing all the old bushings.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Got my RTA bushings today. Tomorrow I hit up the junkyard and get a Y8/7 cam gear. Then I start doing the timing belt service and installing the Si cam. Probably won't get to do the dpfi-mpfi conversion this weekend but it's still on the to do list. Hopefully on Sunday I will get to fab up the brackets for the rear sway bar.

Not a single 96-00 civic at the local salvage yards today. grrrrrrrrrrrr  ...........oh well, wasn't a completely wasted trip. I found a 91 EX sedan that hadn't been touched yet and snagged the front brakes off of it for a really good deal. I'm going back there next weekend to get the master cylinder. next will be rear discs and proportioning valve from a DA. Then my brakes will be at least somewhat adequate, lol. And I know rear discs aren't really an upgrade but I'm switching over for the ease of working on them compared to drums. Plus they look better :D
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
I know.............this thread is worthless without pics. Here's the front spindles.

That looks nice. I wouldn't mind having a white wagon.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Thanks. I think I've sourced a hatch. Going to try and pick it up on Friday.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Got the day off today so I went and picked up a hatch. Also found a 90-91 ex at the same place and snagged the brake master cylinder. Still need to get the rear disc brakes, prop valve and parking brake cables. then comes the fun task doing the conversion on a wagon. blah.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Got the front brakes put on this evening. Now it's not so scary when I hit the brakes hard, lol.

    New next to old

    001.jpg

    New brakes on!!!

    002-1.jpg

I also put on the EX master cylinder but it was dark by the time I was finished so didn't get any pics.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
Oh yeah...................and I didn't know the crx si wheels wouldn't clear the EX calipers, lol. So now my wheels are rubbing. Might be picking up some LS meshies to solve this though.
  • danzdanz Wagonist
those 14's should fit... the any 14's from before 1990 will rub,but 1990 and up SHOULD fit...

i had ITR calipers on mine, but it was on stock knuckles not EX ones... maybe thats why
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
probably because with the ex knuckles the caliper is spaced out further than on stock knuckles. I thought it would clear too but not so much, lol. I have a set of legend 2 pistons that I plan on putting on there but need brake pads first. I'll probably do those at the same time I do my rear disc conversion (still not looking forward to that).
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
    getting tinted tomorrow!!!
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
tint had to be put on hold til next weekend. but did get the ls meshies. getting tires tomorrow for them. one of the next things that it needs is to be dropped. looking a little rough in it's 4x4 status, lol.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
tires on the meshies were a little rough so ordered some proxie 4's today. took it to the car wash for a much needed bath. it's coming along slowly but surely.
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
got the last pieces for the mpfi and si cam swap. got the y8 cam gear (thanks danz and civicpwr1 for the info) and the a6 distributor. now all that is left is me getting off my lazy butt and getting it done.
  • danzdanz Wagonist
you still going to run the DX tranny?

the best upgrade i ever did to my DPFI cars was drop in an Si tranny. that plus the MPFI swap really wakes her up!
  • efrue57efrue57 New Wagonist
yeah, I have an Si tranny if I want it but the only difference between the two is the final drive and I like the lower rpms since it's my daily and it'll get better mileage.
