hey it might be easier to switch out ignition switch/ignition and use the key from the
donar car---- definitly easer than swaping out all the doors...
im fairly sure its a couple of screws and just unplugs...?

Yeah prob would have been easier. All the doors/fenders on it were pulled from the donor car already. I just got done swapping the key assemblies on the front doors, so now all the keys match. While I had the door panels off, I also took apart the window regulators and re-lubed everything as they were having a tough time going further than 1/2 way. The driver's side is still a little tweeked, but now they go up and down with no issues. The rear doors were also sticking...like wouldn't open, so I took off the door panels and relubed the handle assembly. No issues there anymore.
I also forgot to mention that when I took it for a spin the other day, I went to turn on the heater and it ran for a bit and sounded like it got caught on something. Took it apart and found this...
A fucking rats nest. It ended up killing the blower motor and resistor. So I yanked it out, cleaned it up, and started trying to source some new parts. Figured may as well try the parts car. Ended up being a bigger nest in there...pretty much the entire dashboard. :shock: Somehow though, they avoided the heater box, so I was able to get the blower motor and resistor from there, and I have heat now. haha
I pick my donor car up thursday or friday, so I can't wait to get a lot of good parts switched over too!

Here's the speaker pods I pulled from the other car. The speakers were shot, so I swapped over some others, but they were a touch bigger so I had to drill a few new holes.
Sounds a lot better. Now I just need to source some front speakers as those are toast too.
I too did the same thing to my rears. Had some pioneers laying around and were a big bigger, but nothing a little drilling can't do and it sounds TONS better.
Not much progress other than installing a 5 panel wink mirror, took out the amber inserts in the bumper lights...i think it looks a lot cleaner. The one thing i don't care for on the wink is that you've got to remove the visors and it just looks bare up there. I'll end up doing a custom headliner to cover the holes.
I've been driving it and it's doing well on the road. Today i realized that the rear drums need some work though, so i ordered some parts for that, as well as new tailgate struts. I'm also going to change the fuel filter, which i've had a new one, just wanted to cycle out any old gas before changing it.
I'm considering racing this in an upcoming local winter rallyx. We'll see though and i'll be sure to share pics if i do.
I realized the only pics i have of the thing are in the driveway or garage. I had to run a few errands, so i took the dogs, and then went off the beaten path a bit. Found a snowmobile path to mess around on and just took a shit ton of pics. I was having some issues with the camera, probably because it was so cold out. Oh, and the black and white dog really doesn't hate me (she sure looks like it in the pics), she's just spoiled and whines whenever i get out of the car.

Rear drums decided to start grinding, so decided to tackle those. First time doing much on drums, but it's not too bad once you do it.
They sent me the wrong drums...
just put the old ones back on.
Time to bleed the brakes!
Rusted solid, snapped both sides.
Time to take everything back apart, and replace the wheel cylinders. I had a race the following day, and no one had the wagon cylinders in stock. Had to go with a generic one from NAPA and make them work by grinding them down a bit, as well as the rear of the drum.
It's not a normal day working on this thing, unless:
A) Something breaks Bash something on myself

A few years ago, a buddy of mine finished his turbo b16 hatch. He wanted me to come out and get some video of it pulling. While cruising at low RPM, we heard a large amount of squeaking. We went back to the shop and started checking things out. The noise was coming from the rear. So we lifted the car, everything checked out. Looked good. So we took it back out. While sitting in the car not moving, I heard it again (I was sitting in the back seat for this reason). We jumped out and pulled the shit out of his trunk and looked in the spare tire well- to find about 8 baby rats that had just gained their color LOL We took them as a group into the field behind his shop. Someone had an easy lunch haha
Note to self, buy quality parts, and not no-name ebay suspension garbage next time. After two months, I was already having some noise in my suspension when I hit bumps on the left side. Turns out the lower ball joint was already toast, so I picked up a new one from Napa. Only took about 30min to an hour to replace, just bummed I'll probably end up having to replace the other new shit I already replaced. Still dirty from the rallyx even after a wash!
Installed some JDM EG sidemarkers I picked up from wagodizzle about quite a while ago.
This fender had a small dent, so it was an excuse to get rid of that. Got a dent? Add a light to it!
The wife talked me into a spinning class early as f* Saturday morning. So we loaded up the bikes and took off. First time able to use the rack, and it worked well.
Did you rent that bushing removal tool? how hard was that job, the pics make it look easy. mine are COMPLETELY TOAST. i get a lot of clunking in the rear.

I borrowed the tool from a friend with a shop. It definitely makes the job a lot easier, and best part is you leave the arms on the body. I've heard you can freeze the bushing, then heat up the arm and go that route too.
Well I haven't updated this for a bit, but haven't done a whole lot. Recently I replaced the old crappy CD player, and front speakers that I don't know how they were even playing...they practically crumbled when I took them out. Got some Polk's for up front and a used Alpine head unit...sounds great now, especially for a deal.
A couple weeks ago we had some friends come hang out, go boarding/skiing, what not for a week. We had to pick them up in Boston a couple hours south so figured this would be a chance to see what the wagon could handle. Being the first road trip, I didn't know what to expect. I've found that she drinks a bit of oil, but should be ok as long as I keep checking it, and I've got a spare A6 if this thing ever decides to go.
Anyway, there was 5 of us in the wagon, with 3 people's week-long luggage, and all their boarding/skiing gear and it did great. Even did well pullin through the mountains. There were a few rough spots as we have frost heaves that are like craters in the road, but overall I was impressed. Here's a few pics...

Found a decent parking area down near Fenway, and the dude hooked us up. We were a bit worried takin all the gear off the roof and putting it in the car, but it was all there when we got back. First time I've ever tipped a guy for parking in a garage...but everything was there when we got back so it was worth it.
Went down by the river, found some neat mazes and played find the bums!
Havin some beass (beers for other-than-new-englanders) at a pub...
After dinner all packed up, ready to head up home. My friends thinking, man this is gonna be a long ride home...
Lookin forward to my first road trip in Jane. Hopefully Seattle in a couple weeks.

Still in the very primary stage and may not even happen, but moving to Phoenix is a potential. Just had an initial interview with my company to move territories out there. Guess we'll see......I would miss the skiing, but that's about ALL I'd miss of the winter!
Arizona is the shit man! And there's good skiing within a days drive.
I toy with the idea of going back every day. My old roommate actually called me today and said they've got a room available for me. Right now isn't exactly the most ideal time to move there lol Maybe when school starts.
