Yeah, the DA setup is about 1.5 inches longer, but the spring is way shorter, and heavier gauge steel. I like the plushness of the wagon strut/spring's longer stroke.
I finally put on the EX brakes! I bought these in Texas 9 months ago, have been meaning to put them on, especially in light of the camper's added weight. It took a noisy, failing wheel bearing to push me to install them.
Had to go buy a press. Funny, my wife bought me one of these back in '96 or so when I first built the shop, and I exchanged it for something else..a wood-burning stove kit, I think?
Cool delivery vehicle 8)
After pressing out the hub, this inner race stayed. Used a bearing separator and the press to remove:
After the hub, removed this snap-ring that retains the bearing
Pressed out the old bearing
and back in with the new
Replaced the ball joints while I was at it. No pics of that, just used some PB Blaster and a BFH Anti-seize on everything
Bigger and better- new 15/16" master cylinder, too
Haven't test driven much, will see how it does going to work tomorrow.
Those brakes look kick ass squeaky clean! Press from Harbor Freight? Man, I'm jealous of when I used to have one right down the road from me at my old house.
Well, I worked on the RTAs tonight for awhile. I have been less than impressed with the how-tos I've seen on the rear disc swap. Basically just sledgehammer the arm into submission...ugh.
I want to have a setup that's at least as good as stock. Since the DA hub pilot is smaller than the wagon, I wanted a spacer so that the whole deal isn't just riding on those 4 8mm torx-head bolts. Not great pictures, I'll get more as we go:
cut out the Integra RTA to use the pilot surface, as well as the inside web to securely bolt the spindle in just like OE
Here you can just see the edge of the front spacer/pilot from the teg sandwiched in between
Oh, it closes flush, ESPECIALLY on her car It was already 'popped' in that pic...I had to go back and see what you were talking about.
I don't think I'll have much more time on the rear discs this week, we're getting set to take the wagocamper to another MTB festival this weekend. I've got orders for 3 more sets, gotta get busy.
Nice! It's looking good man! Now we need to replicate on my car.
How's the helmet working out so far?
Works well, thanks!
Here I had been cutting and folding, trying to get the caliper to fit
Since I was in a cut-and-weld mood, I just chopped it all out
and replaced with new stock
Just about done
With one minor oversight: I didn't leave sufficient clearance for the e-brake cable bracket
I'll fix it, and cut a bigger hunk out of the next one. I'm looking forward to getting these installed, still need to figure out which RTA bushings to use.
Yep! I have the RTA bearing pivot captured to try and keep the toe steady during travel. Since the car is RWD only, I'm trying to minimise variables when the time comes to tune the suspension (alignment, damping, etc...). The OEM setup toes in slightly under compression, and requires "plunge" in the RTA bushing for this to happen. That's one of the reasons the Prothane and Energy Suspension Urethane RTA bushings are to be avoided.
Those bearings are P-CI. Sold by http://www.SpecialProjectsMS.com, PaswordJDM as well as others. The new ones don't even need holes drilled in the arms anymore.

Glad to see you got them on though!
...and the (20mm?) larger brake booster from an automatic DX wagon

I'll keep updating as I grope along :?
and i see im not the only one who's hatch doesn't close all the way

And here's the "why" of it. Now the spindle fits the arm
And the graft from the inner web

after this is done, what would you want to do it on my wagon lol
Make them look like this:
I ordered OE (TRW) bushings tonight, I'll at least try them for this first set.
New press FTW
I think this one could've been done with an air hammer, but I got to use my new toy!

And tried another method on the trailing arm graft- I think the first way was easier, good old trail and error...
functionally it's the same, I'll take the best of both next time.
just about ready to install
Just for fun, here's the OE wagon rear spindle/hub- I was wondering how it went together, now I know
now dont you go screamin'...
Spent my turkeyday afternoon putting it all together
Now I need to finish up the DA swaybar install...
I know, I know my car is filthy
...but it sures stops well!
