All motor d16

I have some pretty lofty goals in mind, I want to stick with the d16a6 and make roughly around 150 all motor with keeping it as reliable as possible. I am not sure exactly where to start, I have been told of a few ways I can go but I would like some in put from you guys. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

more compression, more displacement, bigger cam, better head, good intake manifold and exhaust.

Some higher compression pistons combined with a well ported a6 head and good cam like the delta 272 would be pretty sweet, but if you wanna go the extra mile you can do a
    D17 Stroker.

I was going to do a d17 stroker and use d17a2 pistons, crank, and rods. Should net you about 120-125 whp on stock a6 head and cam

start with the d17a2 crank and rods, keep your a6 pistons and that should yield you 12:1 compression for an easy budget.
  • What would yeild more power between the d16 vs the d17 pistons

I think it was a matter of deck height. I think the a6 pistons stuck out of the block and the d17a2 pistons were almost flush or just shy. Can't remember go to Dseries.org there a few threads in there

Edit:pm6 pistons(a6) stick out of the block 0.067 in. With the plr-a0(d17a2) pistons, the piston to deck height is .031 in. So mill the deck .030" and you will be set. Use a y8 head gasket and z6 head you are looking at 10.5:1 CR. Keep in mind you still need to notch the crank girdle and block a little bit.

Here is the setups I'm still looking into for my rt.
    a6 block
    d17a2 crank, rods, pistons
    y8 2-layer headgasket
    y8 head
    CR=11:1
On all OEM parts coupled with a vtec intake manifold should get you around 140-145 hp to wheels along with some good torque.
Add a decent cam and some port and polish, tune it, we are looking at 150hp on all oem parts for a reasonable cost. More work than money put into this setup though. It wouldn't be too bad to throw some high comp pistons in the stock a6 block and a vtec head will get you close also.
  • So I just picked up a a6 block whatsit the next step guys :) and thank you for the copious amounts of help

    Pick a budget
  • No budget, I don't have a whole lot of bills so I spend what I cam when I have it
  • ludemanludeman Wagonist
Then pick what setup you want and start researching
  • I guess now I should get a d17, only one I can find thats decently priced, is on the other side.of the state.
  • There was one in Portland CL guy pulled it out of a wrecked car and wanted like $250 I know that the running part doesnt matter to you. Those engine seem to go fast. Hope that helps. Where are you located.

Read up on the d17 stroked. There is machine work needed and a few different ways to go with things. Make sure u know what is needed before u get in too deep
  • Looks like I will be picking up the d17 tomorrow hopefully, even if I need to get some machine work done it wont be to bad, im picking up the motor for $100 and I got the a6 block for $40

to keep things simple machine down the crank snout so you can stick with the a6 oil pump and oil pan.

thanks for the corrections ludeman on the piston height.

also check on the 7th gen civic forum for those blocks. guys are selling them constantly.

if you really wana "keep things simple" just use the D17 crank pulley and dont machine anything

the only thing u can machine if u want to is the deck height of the block. knock off .040 to bring the pistons deck flush! :)

my best ET so far with my stroker is 14.0 @ 95mph. its easily got 13s in it. best numbers so far is 146whp/120ftlbs, and thats still on an unported Y8 head and a stock cam!!
  • ludemanludeman Wagonist
D17a2 crank and pistons? What aftermarket parts did you use to get those numbers
  • wagonef8wagonef8 Wagonist
I got 130hp to the wheels with p29 pistons Y8 head and manifold 2 layer head gasket Y8 intake manifold this was like 6 years ago

I actually have a parted d17a2 parted out sitting. Pistons with rods still attached, and crankshaft in my room. I was going to build a super D with my old EJ8 civic. Make sure to check out http://www.zealautowerks.com/dseries.html very useful information! I ended up not doing it because of having to notch my d16y8 block. I dont have the tools so I never did it. I live in san diego. Interested? I could probably send high quality pictures this weekend. Just do your research! You dont wanna be hitting your valves.

Do you have a build thread some where I can check out?
