Tail lights won't work, 10 amp fuse keeps blowing

What in the hell could be causing this? Brake lights work, headlights work, everytime I replace the #8 fuse in the under-dash box & turn on the lights, the fuse blows & the tail lights don't work. And the light in the dash where the speedometer & odometer is out.

You got a short to ground probably.Basically you have a cut or exposed wire touching metal somewhere.Get a short tester or here's the cheap way.Disconnect everything to this fuse.Plug in a fuse.If it blows the short is between the fuse & 1 of the connectors. If fuse doesn't blow start plugging in 1 connector at a time till the fuse blows. Now start tracking the bad red/blk wire to find the short.
  • ok so to kind of answer your ? i need to ask a ?
have you installed a radio in your car recently
if so double check your ill/dimmer wires for correct connection

if not then just start checking for dead shorts in the wiring
    good luck

it's also common this time of year for water/condensation to get into your brake light housings and short things out too. I've had this problem on my sedan.

I installed a new radio about a month ago. I'll check the wires again. I checked the main fuse box, #33 light switch too & it's not that. Frustrating...I can't drive at night at it's been raining here...ugh.

SiWagon - my wagon is a 91. Do you happen to know what's connected to the #8 relay?

Good call dirtydirty.Try disconnecting the radio connectors. This is most likely where the prob is.There is a red/blk wire going to the radio. You may have shorted or misconnected the rd/bk wire.Hooked the rd/bk wire to the wrong radio terminal :?:
The following are hooked to fuse #8:
    dimmer
    dash lites
    side,tail & plate lites.

I had this same problem on my CRX a couple of years ago and it ended up being a shorted buld in one of the corner lights. Being it was close to 20 years I just figured it ould be best to change all the bulbs and fixed. Haven't had a problem since. GL
