Air Pressure?

Alright, when I first got my Konigs wrapped in Kumho Supra Ectsa 712s, I put 35 PSI in them. They were riding a little rough so I let the air out to 30 PSI. Is it ok to run 30 in them? They feel a little smoother now. I just wanted to ask and make sure.

The size is 205/40/R17 btw.

You may find the sidewalls will wear quicker and on longer journeys the pressure will drop alot more.
  • FWIW, the GF's MINI has 205/45/17, so almost the same size you do, and we lowered the tire pressure due to harsh ride and started getting side wall damage from the rim pinching the sidewall on pot holes (not even big ones). Eventually the pinching wasted 2 tires and one wheel before we got smart enough to put the pressure back up to 35. Tires were Pirelli Euphoria, and the rim may be designed a bit differently, but I'd think twice about lowing the air too much. We dropped it to 28. Maybe 30 is enough, maybe not.

On my stock 14/185/60 i run 34 because i don't mind the bumpyness. It runs GREAT. Most people reccommend 28-32 psi on the sort of tyres i have... i'd say try 32 in yours and maybe bump it to 33 if you notice excess wear on the outer shoulders.
  • tiny side walls suck and ride like shit
there is noway around it i have 14's and i run 40 plus psi and its very nice
i had 17's on a porsche and you just gotta take one for the team if you want the looks

Just because the ride comfort is fine it doesn't mean you aren't damaging your tyres or wheels. It can also slide the tyre off the rim. On the side of the tyre is the reccommended pressure, find a sweet spot between that and the pressures listed on the inside of the drivers door jamb.
  • Plain 'ol Motomaster AW all-season tires with 32 PSI...

This set me back $180 CDN for 4 tires, installation and balancing. Also, I get free yearly rotation and unlimited flat repair.

Nothing fancy but they do the job...

I have also added the factory Civic plastic hubcaps instead of the metallic caps (as seen below on the left wagon) 'cause the plastic hubcaps hide the factory metal rims and the caps rust out...
