RT4wd sedan

Basiclly a buddy of mine has a 91 4door dx sedan and is set on swapping over the RT drivetrain for a little extra handling and original gangsterness. It was an auto but the 5sp was just recently completed. Offical measurements haven't been taken quite yet but we know the axles will for sure need to be enlongated. Considering the narrowness of the wagons vs. the sedans. He obviously has much more ef community knowledge than I on how to get this job done and what to plan for during this build. However, I am curious of all your input and suggestions as ill be part time co-builder. I personally haven't spent a ton of time under an RT4 or sedan so I guess my first question would be.. Is there enough space under a sedan to run the driveshaft or would we have to create a "valley" in the floor to tuck it up? Also does anyone know if the tranny/transfer case would clear the firewall in that area? Guessing some serious rearrangement will be needed down there. Hopefully I can bridge the knowledge gap between yall and him to create this RT4wsedan! Thanks for time!

  • -Run a wagon fuel tank, and driveshaft will fit.
-Engine, gearbox, transfer case, axles etc will all go straight in if you use all wagon stuff
-You will have to fab up the rear end as a wagon rear subframe bolts in but a sedan rear subframe is part of the chassis

Honda made a EF RT4WD sedan, there is an australian member on here with one
  • Guy on another forum built a rt4wd 4th gen hatch. He cut the whole tunnel out of the wagon and welded it in to the hatch, this way it had all the mounting points for the driveshaft/vc. I think one of the biggest challenges is the rear trailing arms are different form other civics. He cut and rewelded to shorten the wagon trailing arm to fit the hatch.

I'd love to have a RT4WD Sedan. Since my sedan and me go back 10 years it'd be the ultimate upgrade, I'd just have to dump the b18.

Awesome this will be a huge help! Were in process of lookin for a doner RT for the conversion to go a bit smoother. Do you know by chance what the aussi members profile is? That blows my mind haha never heard of it

... Thats also a really clever idea we'll consider! If we can find a decent doner RT than it seems like the route to go if we need that little extra clearance. Thanks man we'll have to check out trailer park rally forums. haha sounds like one of my new favorite sites

tprc is not a forum its what he called the car. The forum the build thread was on went to sh*t, I don't care to mention the name.

good info, im looking to put the 4wd from my wagon into my hatch for a rally car build. still keeping my wagon :D gonna rebuild the 1.5 out of the hatch and slap the a6 head on it, should be a fairly direct swap, hoping i can use the 4 speed out of the hatch too.

11/23/10 the rt4wd build is slowly progressing... So far the rear axel and trailing arms were picked off a pull part and plans of creating our own "valley" and hangers are in the works! Also collected some wagon sideskirts for the sedan! they were a little long but managed to fabricate em on as if they were meant to be on the sedan. get a pic of it soon once the weather clears here in the great northwest with our surprise of half a foot o snow!
