Changing e-brake (parking brake)

So, like a dumbass I damaged my e-brake cable when doing my brakes. So I decided to replace it, as I finally got my new wheel cylinders to put in as well.

I'm having a hell of a time getting it out from the drum backing plate.

I've searched a bunch, and can't seem to come up with anything for getting it out.

I was gonna get one from a junkyard, but I need to know how to get this bitch out. As you can see in the pic, I've already damaged the retainer a little. I tried threading the cable through 12 and 13 mm wrenches hoping to compress it so I could slide it through, without any luck.

Any help is appreciated!

  • Dremel and cut off wheel. Cut off the spring clip. Should only need 1 cut, as I'm pretty sure it's split on one side. Then the cable will slide right out.

    Thanks Jaker!

I ended up finding a brand new one online after some searching (ordered one from Honda, but they canceled my order after a week). I wasn't sure what all I'd need to reuse, and I hate replacing things because of my impatience. That's why I'm replacing this cable lol
