Solid upper rear dif mounts?

Just curious if there are any solid upper rear diff mounts like where the diff brace mounts to the frame. These:

if its a stupid question i'm sorry. Just curious if there's a cheaper/better route than like 70 bucks for little pieces of rubber

  • This is just an idea but I know a bunch of guys who use hockey pucks for solid motor mounts, maybe it will work for this particular part as well.

I love hockey pucks. I always use them when jacking my cars up. And it's an old hot rodder trick for mounts.
  • Seems like no one here has been so bold as to engineer a solution to your particular problem yet. I say try the pucks... look around and you may be able to find "mini" pucks, abou 2" dia instead of 3".

A lathe might be helpful too

Lookin forward to hearing your results!
  • I'm thinking about using window weld, like they use when filling motor mounts. Because they seem wobblie no so much torn or anything. but it still causes the rear end clunk.
  • I used Devcon Flexane 94 to fill those rubber mounts (part #5) as well as the one on the back of the diff (#10), and the one on the passenger side of the transmission. My other 2 motor mounts (left side and rear) are Hasport 80 durometer, and I'm not using a front mount anymore. With the RWD configuration, all my engine torquing is now left/right, not front to back.

  • I'll have to look into this. Are these the pieces that if worn give you a clunk when the rear diff is under power?
  • yes sir, at least thats what i can tell. I just bought window weld at autozone, filled it, i guess it takes a few days to set, so i'll leave it outta the car until then.

A clunk? Does it hurt your diff when these go bad or just makes the "clunk"?
